About the Oprah situation…

Posted by Twilight_News - 13/11/09 at 05:11 pm

oprahAbout what was hinted at on Oprah… We don’t want to spoil the episode for those of you that haven’t seen it yet, but for those of you who have seen it, read under the cut.
So when they were flashing under the episode “will there be another book” under the episode, the answer is not at this time. Yeah, we had our hopes up too.

Here’s a little more info where Stephenie talks about other plans, projects, and the movies.

Is this about Oprah saying she would ask S. Meyer if there would be another Twilight book, but that never happened? I know there’s not going to be one, but that bothered me.

What’s this about? I watched the whole thing.

    • Karen says:

Yeah…I wondered too until wonderful Twilight Lexicon here linked to the behind the scenes before Oprah. Stephenie is so much more at ease one on one and answers all those questions. Gotta love the Mom who is pushing for Midnight Sun. :)

      • Megan says:

Totaly! I am SO glad she’s getting it from her mom. She listens to her mom, so perhaps someday… Plus she didn’t seem at all unwilling to finish it, just not RIGHT NOW. I think I can understand. You really do get burnt out from writing only about one story I know from personal experience. I say let her take a break, so long as she writes it someday! I <3 Stephenie!!!

        • belladonna101 says:

I was bummed out that Oprah herself didn’t interview her more, but that’s Oprah for you. The only reason why I was even interested in watching the show was because Stephenie was on. I hope she will get back and write about vampires soon, but I understand. Frankly, I don’t care what she writes as long as she writes something. I loved the Host and I am glad she is going to continue writing about Wanda, Melenie, and Jared.

  • agnes says:

lol you scared me. I thought something happened and she walked out or something? I imagined the worst.

  • donniemangino says:

I wish I knew what was going on…..

  • Ali says:

I was so disappointed in the episode. Based on the website, I thought that some fan questions would be answered. But…nothing.

  • safina says:

I missed the whole thing! I wanted to watch it, but I didn’t know when it would air. I’m so mad at myself.

  • MeyaRose says:

Its showing the same segment twice in a row right now in my time zone, I’m so annoyed. I think I’ll miss something…

  • aMw says:

There was a video posted here it is:

    http://www.oprah.com/media/20091113-orig-stephenie-meyer

They asked about the 5th book, big dissapointment. Same lame stuff and she’s burned out on vampires. They also asked the Midnight Sun question, same dissapointment.

    • FebruaryFilly says:

I like this segment you posted better than the whole thing they aired! “Lucky for us Chris Weitz is a genius.” Amen! Hopefully so much so that he’ll be solving the dilemmas which she has pointed out that Breaking Dawn presents…like a fully developed baby. And I like Stephanie’s mother. Good to know she’s Midnight Sun’s personal advocate. LOL!

      • aMw says:

I like this interview much better too but I felt dissapointed there is no new information about Midnight Sun. I’m tired of hearing about how she can’t work on it any more blah blah blah. She should have never published the unfinished work because so many people are now clamoring over it. People are going to continue to read it for the first time and want it published. It will never end until everyone becomes uninterested and then once they do Midnight Sun will no longer be relevant. That’s just my opnion.

Oh, and you’re welcome Twilight Lexicon for posting the rest of the interview to which you didn’t have the scoop on.

      • K says:

I agree with you, and go Steph’s mom! Stay on her, a mom knows how to wear um down! Yay, I feel like we have an advocate now. I know people will really crawl me when I say this, but I loved the Twilight series way more than the Host. I guess I like fantasy better than sci-fi, I had never really thought about it before. Please, Host lovers, I’m not dissing, I just prefered Twi…

  • arazcal says:

Yup..that’s what was put up on the kyron(?) the entire interview…I was hoping it would be an earthshaking announcement of the completion and publishing of Midnight Sun. There I sat glued in my chair waiting and waiting and waiting..and then nothing! BTW Stephanie lokked truly lovely. Steph is the heartbeat and pulse of the Saga– I think she warrants an entire show devoted to her not 2 segments.

    • arazcal says:

Ok, after watching Oprah’s.com Media follow-up with Stephanie I now have a glimmer of hope that Midnight Sun will one day be a reality in my world. If Stephanie’s mom asks/hounds her daughter about the prospect of “M.S” almost everyday that speaks volumes for me. ;)

      • vicariousfun says:

if her mom keeps hounding her it will never happen. she said she needs to feel alone with her work when she’s writing, like it’s just for her. so if her mother and everyone else that would like to ever cuddle up on the couch with it never shuts up about it, it will never happen.

    • Kali says:

OMGosh those were my exact thoughts too! I wasn’t even thinking of a book after Breaking Dawn, I just kept waiting on Midnight Sun to be talked about. And even in the extra clip it was the very last thing, gosh talk about a nail biter!

    • K says:

Yes, she did…and wasn’t her new hair color gorgeous on her?

  • arazcal says:

that would be “looked” not lokked-although I like the way the word lokked looks ;)

  • brittany says:

the segment was very dissappointing, no new info, not even the info that was teased- a new book.

    • Amy says:

i completely agree, that was such a letdown.

      • Pamela says:

That’s so yucky to hear! It hasn’t aired yet here in Hawaii & I have my alarm ready to go off so I won’t forget to watch Oprah today. Well, I’m gonna watch anyway as I’m interested to see what Stephenie’s mom says about Midnight Sun. Like everyone else, I would love it if she completed the book.

And even if I didn’t see the interview yet, I totally agree that Stephenie deserves an entire show. She has changed sooo many lives!

  • LisCat says:

Ooooh my goodness! Steph knows Edward and Bella’s future!?!?! Now that I know that, I might go crazy if she never continues! Holy crap holy crap holy crap!

    • jessica says:

Don’t fret…they are totally gonna live happily ever after. The Cullens and Quiletes are a solid family and can handle anything. I’m not at all worried about their future. Life is just gonna be peaches and cream from now until forever…well at least until Nahuel reappears and tries to steal Nessie but like Jacob said it’s hard to resist that kind of devotion and love. Curious yet but I can probably live without knowing. Now Midnight Sun is a different issue altogether

      • Yisel Cullen says:

I agree…the Host is one of my favorite books and i’ve been hoping since i read it that she would continue with that amazing story…i’m so glad to hear that those are her intentions and very exited to know that soon I’ll be reading more of Wanda, Ian, Jared and all those wonderful characters she created! Stephenie is a genious! I love the way she writes!

I’m also dying for Midnight Sun..I truly believe that when that book comes out is going to be the best book in the saga…the draft is just so good that the final product withouth a doubt will be amazing! Good to know her mom is on our side…there is hope!!! YAY!

  • Katie says:

I hope she continues with The Host like she said she might. I’d be excited to see that series go on.

  • Dennie says:

I am really trying to be patient when it comes to Midnight Sun… it just has to come out. I refuse to believe that she would leave something like that unfinished knowing the following that it has even at this early stage. She really needs not to write anything else. Her future is set but she should just get Midnight Sun finished.

  • NICOLE says:

I know you are all hard-core twilighters, me too, but check out the Host, if you haven’t already, it is pretty darn awesome. It has a really good love story mixed with sci-fi.

  • Kristen says:

I think the interview was awful, Stephanie hardly got a chance to talk. She is such a great writer she should have had the whole show.

  • Kristen says:

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STEPHANIE FINISH MIDNIGHT SUN!!Thanks to her moms though for saying our feelings for us. I think what happend with the leak was evil and I understand her feelings, but PLEASE!!

  • Valerie says:

After watching Oprah’s interview, I felt like she wanted to fit the bit about Robin Givens in there and cut off what was planned with Stephenie Meyer. It was extremely disappointing. Thanks for posting the Q&A on the Oprah site. I enjoyed it and thought it was better than the entire show they aired.

  • Sheila says:

Thanks for posting this! I felt cheated today when that was totally not addressed. Glad to know that there is some hope for Midnight Sun. We may be waiting awhile, but it’ll be worth it.

  • nostaglicmiss says:

I watched, I am a huge SM fan, but I have to say I don’t really enjoy Oprah’s interview techniques. Sorry, that’s just how I feel!!!

Stephenie was awesome, it’s good to see her around again for this. It feels too long since she’s been out and about :)

    • jessica says:

Yeah I’m not a big Oprah interview fan. She’s incredibly generous yes but maybe it’s just me but i didn’t feel the warmth I’ve come to expect from interviewers towards their interviewees. I watched the whole show just hoping they’d tell us if there were extras online and still the only slightest bit of warmth i felt was when she was hanging out with the karaoke dudes….maybe it’s just me

  • Mag says:

I love the Twilight Saga!!! but i also love the Host and think it was amazing and almost better than Twilight!!!

  • mschicklet says:

OMG No one cares about a fifth Twi book (continuing the series). People care about Midnight Sun, which isn’t a continuation of the series, but parallels the series. They should have just asked that question. “Midnight Sun – yes or no?”

    • ML says:

What world are you living in? The majority care about a fifth twilight book.

    • DenverT says:

Of course we want more Twilight, this is really the first I’ve heard SM mention a continuation of the saga. I’d love to hear more about the the Cullens, grown up Nessie, the wolves and of course Charlie. I’ll keep a little bit of hope tucked away that someday we just might see more of them. And she did say that she already knew what would happen if she did decide to continue. But in all respect, I think I can understand how she’s burned out on vampires (drat!!)

  • sara says:

so as everyone says, the actual oprah show with stephenie was a bust. nothing really happened and all it was was a repeat of what all of us twihards already know 100 times over. but the small clip was much better information! i really hope she comes out with midnight sun, and a second book to the host! and wasnt she talking about writing a book to do with sirens a year or so ago? comon, she can have been doing nothing this past year!

  • HPS says:

Please don’t be so bummed out on the interview; I know it was sort of a let down (not much new info) but there is plenty of awesome news tucked away in my opinion:

    1. Stephenie Meyer is focusing on The Host right now (aka making a movie, and is considering a three part series). I don’t know about you guys, but this news made me so excited! Stephenie hasn’t hinted much to any sequels for The Host lately so this is big for fans of those books.

    2. She has a new fantasy book in progress. Sure, we’ll have to wait a while for any little hint to what is is…but with New Moon the movie to occupy us for now, thats not really a big deal is it? :P

    3. She’s mentioned that she planned Twilight to be a longer series then just four books. There is a very big chance that she’s going to return to these characters for both Breaking Dawn, and maybe other books. It’s just going to take time…besides i wouldn’t really want her to rush things anyway, thats why The Host was so good: not rushed.

Anyway, just my thought. If you’re bored waiting for the Twilight series to continue I HIGHLY recommend reading The Host. Awesome book, just saying lol.

  • jessica says:

She should totally listen to her mother!!!! I watched her on Oprah and her mother suggested that she end New Moon differently and she did and hello it was awesome. So she should totally listen to her again. Mother is always right. Plus she could write a hundred more books and we’d still be salivating for Midnight Sun. If she wasn’t so damn talented she wouldn’t have a problem. She is soooo you know. I of course am prepated to wait but it’s a little naive to think that no one is interested or waiting. Everyone is waiting. I honestly think that the Edward in her head is too stubborn and determined to let her just forget him or put him on the back burner for too long. He’ll be yelling and clamoring soon. Lol!

    • mschicklet says:

I think Stephenie is very lucky to have the LUXURY of deciding what/when/how to write. Lots of authors NEED to write in order to, you know, pay bills and whatnot…

Still, as a Twi-fan myself, I’m sure even I will be excited about Midnight Sun 10 years from now when it will probably finally be released ;)

    • Kali says:

Yep! Edward is too stubborn and her Mother is dilligent. We’ll have that book on the shelf someday. :)

  • Peg says:

Oprah was a letdown; nothing new discussed or revealed. Publicity is publicity, but I’m not sure who benefitted the most from this. Thanks to the Lexicon for the off camera video – slightly more entertaining than the actual segment.

  • mschicklet says:

Also, if one more person talks about the freaking action in Eclipse, I’m going to scream. Yea, I get that it has heavy action in, like, what, ONE SCENE? But wow — I’ve read that book all the way through five times. It was a much calmer story (in terms of fight scenes vs. regular dialogue/heated discussions scenes) than any of the other Twi books. I don’t necessarily think Melissa Rosenberg knows that, because frankly there is no hope for her. But David Slade? Come on, buddy. Tell me you understand the story of Eclipse.

    • Lila says:

less action? did you skip jasper’s back story, all the killing in seattle, the battle at then end, the training sequences, how can you say that’s less action? I think you may need to read it again..

      • Lila says:

not to mention all the quilieute backstory too.

      • mschicklet says:

But Eclipse is way more character-driven and way less plot-driven than the other books. I don’t want the movie to ignore the fact that this is a crucial story for Bella and Edward AND Bella and Jacob. It’s not all about the newborn fight scenes, and yet Steph and the cast seem to only talk about that.

Although I do have to apologize. I totally forgot about jasper’s backstory LOL. I didn’t forget about the Quileute backstory though.

      • vicariousfun says:

yeah but in the book it wasn’t something that they lived through at the time, it was Jasper telling Bella about his past. Sounds like they’re bringing that to life on the screen so that there will be more action in the movie. I get the feeling David Slade is more concerned about making it something guys would like to watch and less about what the book was really like. disappointing

    • Liz says:

My understanding from the bits that we’ve heard from the cast is that much of the action is the fight with the newborns that we don’t see in the book. Because the reader is with Bella we can’t see it, but in a visual medium it would be very lop-sided to show the fight with Victoria and then only mention and show the aftermath of the other fight.

Plus that means more screen time for the other Cullens and that is a great thing.

      • mschicklet says:

Yea, sort of like how the Volturi “fight scene” is totally different in NM the movie than it was in the book? In that case, I’m happy w/ the difference. The clip we’ve seen looks great. I just don’t want the fight in Eclipse to be the main thing everyone’s talking about for the next eight months. It’s a 2 hour long movie, the fighting will take up 30-45 mins at most LOL

  • foxbite2 says:

The Philly area showed a Mike Tyson episode of Oprah. I even left work early to see it. What a disappointment.

  • papermoon says:

    *sigh*
Steph, write Midnight Sun. we are turning blue from holding our breath. you don’t need to continue the story further than Breaking Dawn.

and write a sequel to The Host. that book was phenomenal, and i think it doesn’t get nearly the credit it deserves because of the Twilight glare. the story was better written, and the ending was actually something i did not see coming. really well done!!

    • Kali says:

WHOA WHOA Whoa! If she wanted to write more after Breaking Dawn, we should be SUPPORTIVE! Thats what fans do. Sit back and thankfully receive whatever she gives us…that’s my plan.

      • papermoon says:

i thought she said she *didn’t* want to write the story beyond Breaking Dawn? that she was done with that story? so why should we be pushing her to write more for twilight if she *wants* to write the Host instead??

i think i *am* being supportive.

    • Winner says:

There is this wonderful place called the LIBRARY. Where millions of books just sit on the shelf waiting for someone like you to love them.

In the words of Liz Lemon… Go To There.

  • Susie says:

I would love to see Midnight Sun as much as anyone else, but I think constantly posting and begging for it is the kind of Pressure and “looking over” her shoulder that she was talking about in the behind the scenes interview. (and almost every interview that it’s been brought up in)
Not to sound rude or mean but, to me it sounds like a little kid begging a Mom for more treats…She knows we want it and does want to give us more but the constant “GIMMIE! GIMMIE! GIMMIE!” is soo annoying to the point where the Mom cracks and says, “THAT’S ENOUGH! You’re not getting anymore until you calm down and behave!”
    I know it’s hard but,maybe we should all calm down,show some better manners,and be patient…just saying :)

  • safina says:

Thank you so much Twilight Lexicon for giving a link to this video! It feels so good to hear from Stephenie after such a long time. I really hope she finishes Midnight Sun. I’m going nuts over it. I only read its first chapter, even though I was dying for the rest, because I didn’t want to feel like I was betraying Steph by reading something she didn’t want her fans to read. But now, I can’t wait anymore. I want it really bad.

    • mschicklet says:

Just read it. That’s why she posted it on her website. So that people wouldn’t feel bad getting it off the black market or something lol. It’s fantabulous.

And besides, she’s going to make so much money once she finishes Midnight Sun. Don’t worry, safina, she will get what she wants out of the whole Midnight Sun ordeal. You’re not doing anything wrong by reading it.

    • urcoolcarrie says:

I feel the same way. I haven’t read a page because I felt like I was somehow betraying Stephenie. I know its silly, but thats the way I feel. Plus, if she ever does decide to finish it, I will have a brand new book to read that I haven’t seen a page of, which is what I am hoping for. :)

  • Katie says:

I was disapointed a little bit, just kept over promoting the movie!

  • Kali says:

So Stephenie as got her Mother reminding her to work on Midnight Sun, I feel better now. I don’t have to worry that she doesn’t think about it. I’m gunna let go of it, and enjoy what we have so far. Maybe if everyone backs down and supports the New Moon movie we’ll get Midnight Sun the book, and Breaking Dawn the movie.

NEW MOON IN 1WEEK!!!! YAY US!!!!

  • tootsie200014 says:

I went 2 the opra website for the video and it did not play i’m very diappointed that she said nothing about midnight sun and thats the reason i was watching it so i was mad and i ready knew that stuff

  • monica says:

Have to say stephenies mom is my favorite! keep pushing for midnight sun! PLEAAASSSSSSSSEEEEEE<3

  • Kristen says:

I have to agree with some of the statements about backing off andletting stephanie chillax, but I think about Edward (not Rob, fine as he may be) all day everyday. The idea of being inside HIS head, knowing HIS thoughts and the extra bonus of more time and info with the cullen household. Thats what drives me mad I need more I need to understand his side.

  • Jules says:

Dear Stephenie Meyer’s mom, I love you. Please hound your amazing daughter like only a mother can. Midnight Sun will be her most wonderful work of art yet. If she publishes that, will you PLEASE get her to do an EPOV for the rest of the series? I need an Eclipse EPOV!!!!LOL!

  • Dani says:

I, too was a little disappointed that Stephenie did not get the entire hour. There are so many speculations out there, it was nice to hear it from Stephenie. She is such a down to earth person and I can understand the burnout. We all just need to be patient and see what world she will draw us into in the future.

  • Beth says:

I thought the Oprah interview was great! Usually on her friday live episodes she has a panel of celebrities who talk about current events and her guests usually skype in, so I was very happy that she was there in person. Also, you need to remember who Oprahs main audience is: Adult women. Now I know that there are tons and tons of adult women who love this series (I am one of them) but she needed to taylor her show to that and I can understand why it wasn’t more in the Q & A style of say MTV. Also, she focused on the fact that Stephenie was an ordinary stay at home mom (which is something that is very relatable to her core audience) who achieved something because she believed in herself and Oprah features stories/people such as Stephenie’s to empower other women to try and achieve their dreams and potential. So even though no new information was shared on the show (and I don’t believe her show had any promos that said there would be), I thought it was a great segment.

  • Miranda says:

I love all of the books so it would be awsome if stefanie did another book. I think that she back off from Bella and Edward (dont get me wrong i love both of them very much) but she should focus on Renesmae and Jacob, also if she did another book she should go into a little more detail about Qill and Clair.

  • Sarah says:

I thought the behind the scene segment was better than the whole episode on Oprah. I think next time Stephanie Meyer should do her interview on Ellen. At least Ellen would push the questions that many of the die hard Twilight fans want to know.

  • lukas says:

stephanie looks so pretty! i love her :)

  • Chela85 says:

omg why did the interviewer bring up M.S?????!!! now it’s going to bother steph again and now (if she was considering writing it) the whole process is going to take even longer. *sighs, and tries to wait patiently in hopes that Ms. Meyer while in fact continue M.S.*

  • linda says:

she’s very talentd. midnight sun is like my favourite. i’d love her to finish that. but i just finished reading the host. and although it took me a while to get into, it was really good! i hope she writes another. as for twilight, as much as i’m obsessed with it. im kind of content with how it ended. i dont want a 5th book added, it might not end how i wanted. if anything it should be midnight sun. :)

  • I love Edward says:

I totally want a 5th book! I would give anything to read more about Edward and Bella, Please, Oh, I hope she writes one someday soon. If she knows there future! WE all need to know it too!! Come On!

Oh, and Midnight Sun needs to be finished! Please!!

  • Twilight Nymph says:

I’d love for Stephenie to write something else that has to do with the Twilight universe even if it was about another character in the series, such as Renesmee. I love her writing. Yet, I understand that sometimes people need to take breaks from what they wrote about for so long in order to refresh their minds and get back in that track. So, I agree with her decision to take her time off, but I’d also like to see M.S. or some other book in relation to the Twilight Saga, sometime before I turn 35 and I’m 22 right now. LOL

  • Char says:

I wish the interview was longer! I can’t believe Oprah read Twilight! :) That’s pretty cool!

  • Is this about Oprah saying she would ask S. Meyer if there would be another Twilight book, but that never happened? I know there’s not going to be one, but that bothered me.

  • Kaylie says:

I dont understand what everyone’s obsession with Midnight Sun is. It’s the same exact story as Twilight, but written from Edward’s perspective. We know exactly what’s going to happen. Personally, I would rather have Stephenie write something new and original.

    • Amy says:

i agree with chelsea’s comment. midnight sun is sooo different from twilight. viewing the story from his perspective fills in so many of the gaps and it helped me to understand him better.

      • Celine says:

I second that. I thought it was impossible to love Edward more before I read Midnight Sun.But I think that we should leave her alone and let her write it when she’ll be ready. And I m so happy that she’s going to work on the Host. She’s the best!!!

    • Kali says:

But don’t you want to know what Edward was thinking on the race to the ballet studio? And who read the letter Bella left, was it Alice was it Edward? And when he saw Bella and thought she was dead, what was he thinking? And what he was thinking when he sucked out the venom? I want to know what he was thinking when he kissed Bella and ran with her on his back, and THE MEADOW!!! I want to know his thoughts when he was away from her write after the crash. Yes it is the same story, but told by a different person, I’d be a whole new book.

    • Donna says:

kaylie, Even SM admits that Edward’s story is more dynamic and interesting than Bella’s. He’s such a complex character with a wide range of issues that affect everything he thinks and does!

Bella’s character is really superficial compared to his. Sorry…I think 99% of fans would agree with me. I write fanfics from Edward’s POV and the depth to which you can take his character is astounding.

  • Chelsea says:

It’s a much different story. Things are so much different from Edward’s prospective. He’s struggling with a decision he doesn’t want to make. Read the first 260 pages on Stephenie’s website…it’ll enlighten you on why it’s such a big deal…

    • Beth says:

ITA there are a bunch of event that we would never know about too. What happened to the guys in the ally, I had always wondered that Edword wouldjust let that go in Twilight. Oh and the meeting where we find out just how many of the Cullens wanted Bella dead in the begenning. I think that lends huge insight to their relationships with Bella further down the line.

  • carrie says:

i think midnight sun needs to be finished, there is so much from Edward’s perspective that makes it complete. But if there is ever a continuation – 5th book, i would love it to be more wolf-centric. The cullens are great but wolf imprinting would make really nice stories too without the overload of vampires stuff in SM’s head. i’m crazy about the wolfpack and reading too much fanfic on imprint stories. ;)
