What’s Missing From the Meet Jacob Black Trailer

Posted by Twilight_News - 18/08/09 at 09:08 am

MTV has a rundown of missing elements from the most recent trailer from the Volturi to the elusive Quil:

“Shirtless Taylor Lautner? In-costume Dakota Fanning? Strung-out-looking Robert Pattinson? Check, check and check. But although the “New Moon” trailer entitled “Meet Jacob Black” gave us plenty of fun things to look at — again, and again, and again — it also continued to omit plenty.

Depending on your point of view, the two “New Moon” trailers have either held back all the best stuff or done a good job of giving us glimpses at just enough to get our butts in theater seats. But at the risk of paraphrasing Veruca Salt: We want it all, and we want it now!”

So agree or disagree with MTV, did you like what you saw, or did you like Veruca from Willy Wonka want more?

Also, so you can really see the finer points, check out this frame by frame gallery. It’s where the “strung out Pattinson picture” featured above came from.

In the gallery, did anyone else notice that the lair of the Volturi looks completely different? There are no other vampires in the room, and it looks much brighter (and cleaner) than the dark turret described in the book. I don’t mind, but I was wondering if any of you noticed. We also get a small glimpse of Caius.

    • Kayla says:

Yeah I noticed that also. I imagined it to be smaller, darker, and everyone to be close together.. like it was described in the book. But when I saw the trailer, it was big and light?

  • Annie says:

The only thing that bugs me right now (except for it not being November already) is that Edward’s eyes are still amber when he has the Volturi robe on. He’s supposed to have black eyes then because he hasn’t been eating. Oh and the junket style interviews interspersed in the trailer… What IS that?!?

    • LaTuaCantante says:

I was questioning the eyes as well Annie. I thought he would have dark eyes. Hmmm…I’m still super excited for November though :D I think overall, Summit did a great job “teasing” us, pun intended. Jane looks as evil as I imagined her and I think Rob’s going to pull off the excruciating pain inflicted on him wonderfully. Best kiss once again goes to Rob and Kristen. Completely smoldering (sigh).

    • Kayla says:

Wait- why are his eyes RED? Did anyone notice that?

  • Miranda says:

I liked it, but those who haven’t read the book need to read it or they’re not going to get a big audience. A lots of the things in the trailer are relly too short for those who haven’t read it. New Moon will bomb the theaters, now that Twilight has been released everybody knows what it is. But it’s not going to grab those who don’t know what it is… it needs to be either longer or show more of Bella and Edwards relationship otherwise people are gonna be like well why is it such a big deal if edward leaves? people break up all the time… so personally I LOOOOOVVVVEEEDD except for the part where edward get’s tazered- screw jane, but other wise yes i love it, but those who dont know what is going on aren’t gonna come unless someone explains it to them, but YEEESSS!!!I <333333 IT!

    • A says:

There is no way New Moon will bomb, there are millions of Twilight fans and we all know every single one of them will go to see it. Even if those who wanted to see what Twilight is all about don’t go this time round there are enough fans to see it do well at the box office!

    • bwen says:

It was Twilight fans that made Twilight the mega hit that it is, and they will do the same for New Moon, even if no one new comes to the theatre. These fans are a ready made audience and believe me they are all hungry for the next movie.
But I can almost guarantee that the audiences will be bigger for New Moon , have you not seen the best sellers lists around the world the Twilight Saga is #1 everywhere, those new readers will be coming out to see the movie!

  • A says:

Victoria’s hair is waaaay redder which I really like – not sure why it was so blonde in the first one??! I think Summit are just leaving the best bits out – which is a good thing. This isn’t even really a ‘trailer’ as such, I don’t think – so I think we’ll get a longer, more traditional trailer closer to the time. If anything I think this is just something they bolted together to get people to go and see Bandslam if anything else. Having said that I’m loving what I’ve seen so far and I can’t wait until November!

  • jon says:

thanks for the screen shots. other werewolves are WAY less beefy than jacob… seems like the difference is too obvious. they may not be alphas, but they’re still werewolves.

    • Nush says:

Well jacob is mentioned in the book as being the second biggest, the first being Sam

    • ljc says:

JON noticed it as well lol,i think alex is the second most ripped in the wolf pack …We are so bad. You’re right they gave poor taylor hell.. cant wait new.moon all the way love Victorias RED HAIR tooooo. FRANCI I just think ROB looks a little older/mature now than when he 1st played ed.

      • M.P. says:

Hey twifriend, ty 4 your e-mail!!!! I agree so totally with u: Rob looks a bit older… but who cares? He looks gorgeous as always… (sighs…)

Now I was wondering… Do u believe they’ll change some of the visual efect (wolves) for the next movie? U know, new diretor… & no one knows what he has in mind… :\

  • GrayceM says:

I like the look of this. The coloring is different in this movie, warmer. Twilight had the colder blue/green coloring to it that it had to have for the vampires. Twilight was all about Bella leaving the world she new and moving to this cold, rainy place. Meeting the cold, marble Edward and other vampires.
New Moon warmer coloring is perfect for the wolf pack and Jacob. Since it’s all about Jacob being the personification of warmth for Bella, so Chris got that right!
I would like to see the other Volturi and hopefully there will be more shots of Quil and Embry with Jacob prior to the change but I feel that the story line was probably kept as close to the book as possible. Have faith people. They know how important this is to us!

  • Franci says:

my goodness……. Why in the world does that NOT look like Edward. Maybe it’s just me. Did they have a “stunt/double/look-alike/someone else”
    Someone help me out here.

Details in the book are NOT going to match up to the movie, just like in Twilight. Sad but true.

Overall – I absolutley LOVED IT VERY MUCH. No I’m not like Veruca – - I say keep me on the edge of my seat and tease me ’til the cows come home!! HA HA HA – This Thursday, makes on THREE MORE MONTHS…. I am so darn excited!

  • Talya says:

only RPatz can make getting mentally tazered by a psycho vampire/ looking “strung out” look intense and hot.

    • bwen says:

      You are so right!!!!!!
And that reunion kiss is so sensual!!!! Even though the kiss didn’t happen in the book, I think it was a great idea to add it, YUMMY!!
Man is those 2 don’t have something going on, on the side then they should, because chemistry like that should not be wasted for just in front of the camera.

  • GrayceM says:

I’d also like to add that Quil had not yet begun to transform when the confrontation between Jacob and Paul takes place. He doesn’t start his change until long after and if I’m not mistaken, he doesn’t appear with the rest of the pack until Eclipse. That’s one reason why Bella is so angry at Sam and the “cult” he has dragged Jacob into, because she gives Quil a ride home and he’s so scared that whatever’s happened to the rest of the guys will happen to him.

  • Pepper says:

I really liked it. Too much and we will end up like movies 4 and 6 of Harry Potter, seeing virually the HOLE movie before it is released. when TOO many trailers, screenshots, clips, and interviews from on set are released it is exciting, but spoils the freshness of seeing the film that first night at midnight! this was just enough for me. Victoria’s hair being more red. THANK YOU! shirtless Jacob? makes up for there being so little Edward. it looks exciting, it looks thrilling, and i cant WAIT for November. COME ON!!!

  • Chloe says:

Quite frankly, I’d really rather they NOT show too much of the movie in all of these trailers and screen shots they keep releasing.
    A. I’d rather see the WHOLE movie on 11/20. I don’t want the 20th to arrive and there’s only about 15 minutes that I haven’t already seen.
    B. Deathly Hallows has me gun-shy. I don’t want them to show ALL of the cool parts in previews and then there’s nothing awesome left for the actual movie.
    C. Granted, I’m already REALLy excited for 11/20 – but their teasing us with just bits and pieces is making it EVEN MORE exciting! I dig that we’ve only seen glimpses of the Vulturi … it’s leaving some mystery. I mean – we already know the story – we know how it ends … it’s fun to leave a little mystery in how all of the movie magic will come together.

    Am I alone in this?

    • Sammie says:

I agree with you! I want to go and see the movie…and during the movie be like..”WTF” Didn’t see that coming! And the Vulturi should be a mystery until 11/20…I don’t know why ppl are complaining…movies are never going to have all the details that the book has…I know this one will be awesome…much better then Twilight…That one was waaaay off! Chris did a great job!

  • muse7 says:

They are definitely going after the “action movie” crowd here. Even still, love it! This movie looks so much more legit than Twilight which came off as much more “backyard indie” film.

  • safina says:

I think it’s good that they didn’t show the best parts of the movie in trailer because I don’t want to be too spoiled before watching New Moon.

  • Julie T says:

Wait. Is this the official New Moon trailer? Are we going to get an Oficial one with no one talking through it?

  • Rob says:

i wonder if they are gonna do the book cover? like they did in Twilight with the apple, are they gonna do a red-white flower in New Moon?

  • Jessica says:

I think the trailer was perfect, as far as non-spoilery trailers go. It’s good for Twilight fans who want to see what the movie will be like but still have a fairly unseen movie waiting for them at the theater, as well as non-fans, but curious onlookers who may be somewhat intrigued.
P.S. I love the picture of distraught Edward. I think it fits perfectly with the storyline-the dark circles under the eyes, the disheveled hair. The only thing that would make it better is if his eyes were pitch black. It would look scarier, and be more accurate.

  • Hey people! Does anyone else think that the part when RPattz is looking quite..crazy, for lack of a better word, that that’s when Jane is torturing him? Just a thought!
Let me know what you think :)

  • Swan says:

Loved it. this is Jacob’s movie. We’ll get more Rob in the next movies and we’ll see the Volturi soon enough. I’m geeked.

  • AddtheSpunk says:

    I thought itvwas great

  • danielle says:

I thought that it was great. Really liked that it had commentary and all. A lot of cool new shots and everything. But seriously Quil being elusive not really he didn’t even change into a werewolf yet so he’s not really elusive. Just had to add that.

  • Carrie says:

Wow, Edward really does look strung out in that picture :) . He is supposed to look terrible when they’re first reunited, so that’s fine. I like the part where Bella confronts Sam, I like it when Jacob jumps up the tree into Bella’s room, and I love the glimpses of Victoria, Jane, and Edward, but it did feel like something was missing from this trailer. I’m glad they haven’t given away the part where Bella stops Edward from stepping into the sun, but the next trailer needs to feature a good shot of the Volturi and Alice. She’s very important in the 2nd book and thereafter. They should show her speeding in the Porsche :) . That being said, I did think it was a very cool trailer.

  • Niki Lynn says:

I’m no Veruca Salt. I absolutely HATE it when movie trailers show all the best parts of a movie so there’s nothing to look forward to once you’re in the theater seats. I’ve read the books, so while the plot is no mystery, I wold still like there to be some mystery on how they executed some of the scenes. So in other words, Yes I like that they don’t give s everything in the trailers.

  • Talya says:

    I loved it. haha
But did anyone else notice the goteamjacob.com link at the end?
    Now what I want is a goteamedward.com trailer…
    haha
Then again, Team Edward sort of had all of Twilight.
    But I still want it.
    :)

  • ellen says:

    good gosh……Dakota looks…..wicked…..

  • DakotaLookAlike says:

Well, if you think they show the best parts so you have nothing to look forward too…not really. think of…Harry potter and the half blood prince. they showed thousands of clips and trailers and everyone thought they showed the whole movie and the best scenes but…i disagree 100% their will still be GREAT parts.
lol i wish i was plaing jane :) :( i am told i look like her but i BARLEY see it haha
    Lots of love,
    Elise
