Amanda Bell, the Twilight Examiner, has a great article that features former head of Warner Books, Larry Kirschbaum. Back when the contracts for Twilight were being drawn up, Little Brown was then owned by the Time Warner Book Group. Shortly after Twilight’s release in print, Little Brown was acquired by Hachette. Hachette still currently owns Little Brown.
The key place that you want to look in this video that details the ins and out of the publishing business is the 2:10 mark.

Thank you for posting this entry. Have not yet had a chance to watch this (will later at home). I enjoy the ‘behind-the-scenes’ info of how movies got to be / were made. Twi-hards everywhere should thank Larry Kirschbaum. Can’t wait until Eclipse and Breaking Dawn have been completed & released, then we can watch the quadrology. Excited to see how different directors will interpret the story, of course having Melissa Rosenberg write the screenplays is very helpful in keeping the focus on the story.
why does he say 3 books and 6 figures, what are the figures about??? does sbdy know???
now that I have almost seen the hole interview (it´s a bit long and I understand like 60% or so…) but it´s really interesting to know more about the editing and publishing books. Lately, when i enter any bookshop, all you can see are bestsellers, and from the most known and recognized authors. I compare it to “blockbuster” where they have only big-budget movies, but what about the rest???
Well, the same happens to me with books. I look for some classics, and can´t find them! it´s so frustrating!!!
(this happens in Argentina anyway…!)
figures, like $$$.
What an incredibly interesting pair of people and interview, I ended up listening to it all and it was just awesome, thank you for bringing it here!!
