CNN has an article up on the Twilight fan experience. They quoted various people at the Creation Entertainment Twilight Tour stop in Atlanta from fans, to the costume replica designer John Henson, to us.
” The fans are fervent enough that “Twilight” conventions will likely go on for years, Joffs said, “A woman picks up the book, expects it to be nothing much, kind of rolls her eyes, and then they get completely sucked in. It’s something about that book, something about the way Stephanie Myers(sic) wrote the books. I can’t see it dying down anytime soon.”
The article is basically good, but there are a couple of inaccuracies, for example this didn’t happen as they lock the building at night, we admit we are crazy fans, but we haven’t held any sit-ins. “Followers of the teen vampire romance also earned a reputation last year for claiming seats at Comic-Con — the huge San Diego-based sci-fi, fantasy and comic book convention — a day in advance and then not moving a muscle.”
And this part we giggled at, Lori wasn’t driven to Twilight because of her divorce, that was a coincidence that happened two and half years into running the site (45 minutes of questions waxing eloquent about female driven media and they quote they last comment when asked in passing “what do you do for a living”)….sometime you just have to laugh, you never know what reporters will pick up on.

I always tell people who dont understand if you havent read the books you wont understand
I read the book because young pre-teen was reading it. Stephenie writes very well. After book one, I bought the remaining four and have read them a couple of times and picked up on items not caught the first time. I still enjoyed reading them the second time. I know plenty of other mom’s who did the same. You can not knock a good story with such captivating characters.
I didn’t think much of Twilight back when the movie came out. I didn’t think much of the books either and then I heard a co-worker discuss the series with one of the students here at school. So, over spring break, I bought all of the books and I was overwhelmed! I read the enire series in 5 days. And Brandie is right, if you haven’t read the books, you’ll never understand. This series is, by far, the most romantic series I have ever read. I still pick them up and read them now. There’s just something about them that continues to draw you to them.
I cannot believe a Twilight fan site would misspell Stephenie Myer’s first name! Really? S-T-E-P-H-E-N-I-E not STEPHANIE.
I think they just quoted the CNN article…
the misspelling is a quote from the CNN article…not from the fansite.
Hello. How about her last name? Noone mentioned it. It is spelled Meyer not myer
Note the inserted (sic) which is the standard indication that the originating source has a typo and the quoting source (in this case us) is aware of the error.
I enjoyed the movie when it came out for rent. Then over the summer. My husband bought the Twilight book for our 14 yr old daughter. She never picked it up. It sat on our table for a few weeks. Then I picked it up one day and started to read! It captured my attention instantly! Im not in to reading books but I could not put this one down and I had to rush like a crazed woman to get the next book as soon as the store opened! I read them all in 5 days too! I was sad when I was finished I want more! I ran out and bought the movie! IM now on my second round of reading the books again along with my daughter and my husband! They wanted to see what made me so crazy! I love the Books Stephanie! Thank You! I knew I was a crazed fan when I caught myself looking at team edward wristbands at hot topic! From the MARRIED 33yr old mother of 2!
when my friend actually forced me to read the book i was like dood this book sucks!! i started reading more and more and just like the article said i got sucked in!! now im in LOVE with the saga i am currently re-reading it actaully!
I know what you all are saying. I drive my family nuts with how much I love Twilight. It’s like an addiction to me. I have read all the books twice and now I’m listenting to the audiobooks. I can’t get enough. It’s so bad in fact that I am also addictted to Twilight Fan Fiction. I can’t help myself…I try to quit and leave, but it keeps sucking me back in. I think I need TA (Twilight’s Anonomys…and not the website that only feeds the addiction.) I keep telling my mom…read them then you’ll understand. She keeps resisting, but I think I am wareing her down.
im a 61 year old gr8 grandma ive read the twilight books 5 times each and have seen twilight 9 times. never gets old or boring. cant wait for the other three movies to come out.go,go,go,twihards.
I have to laugh at the young mothers being embarrased about being a Twilight/Robert fan. I read all four books and the online 12 chapters of Midnight Sun in 7 days. I felt like a teenager and became obsessed just like everyone else. Never before have I read book twice, I am on my third reading, I watch all or some part of the movie every single day. I am a Grandmother of 4 and 62 years old. Too old to be feeling this young but I accept it. lol
i totally agree,moza.
Until April I had not heard of the books but seen the movie advertised on TV I have always been and avid reader but no books ever did this to me. Mary we should be e-mail pals and giggle together.
omg i JUST read this on my phone
to all the twilight moms out there, i salute u nd your coming out to the twilight world
I can’t blame teenage daughters for my obsession lol. I caught the film first time one evening on TV 9 weeks ago. Totally captivated and watched it on repeat thru the night. And again the next day and the next day. The books all arrived in 4 days from Amazon and were devoured in as many days. I’ve watched Twilight almost every day ever since (still wish it had been more faithful to the book) as I’ve got to get my daily fix of Rob, and am now on my 7th re-read of the books!! The soundtrack rocks and most days start with Muse blaring out in my car on the way to work. All I want now is for Stephenie to revisit her story as told by Edward, cos it would be brilliant, and to one day meet Rob and the cast. I hope they have a fab time at the Comic Con tomorrow.
Thanks, Hina! I’m 55, and I’m an avid TW Saga fan, having read the books and MS multiple times. I was at TwiTour in ATL and loved every minute of it.I was even one of the trivia contest winners! My Edward (my DH) calls me a “Twilie”
Rebecca 628, I was also, at the twilight tour in Atlanta! the convention was about two blocks from my house so I thought what the heck! i’ll go!
I got to meet one of the actors, and being visually impaired, I can’t actually see the characters-actors on stage, or on screen. So, I got to spend some time with Kellan Lutz during a photo op! I tell you, it was very memorable for me, and I can’t wait for them to come back next year. I think the twilight saga can be for all ages, and after reading them, everyone takes a piece of edward and Bella’s love story with them!
Have a great day! congrats on being one of the trivia winners!
I am a student in college studying literature. I have read literature from ever era, generation, nation, culture, language, etc. but never have I been this captivated by a novel and especially by a series. I cannot put into words, despite my years of writing, what this story means to me. As cheesy as it sounds, it gives me something to look forward to every day. Even though I have a wonderful family, tons of friends, I attend a major university and I’m part of a great sorority, I have an amazing boyfriend (soon to be fiance, fingers crossed!) but yet sometimes I find that I would MUCH rather be in my bed submerged in this world with these amazing characters. It makes me feel…well…it just gives me this feeling like nothing else ever has. They cast this movie so perfectly; it gave the most perfect visual to the most perfect novel. Robert Pattinson is the most perfect dream man. (Sorry there is no other word but ‘perfect’). This is coming from someone who has never followed celebrities, never really used the internet, and certainly never fantasized about heartthrobs. Now, I can’t get enough of this young man; I log onto the internet daily to read articles and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve dreamed of meeting him! It’s ridiculous. Had you told me that I would be like this a year ago about some movie, book or actor I would have laughed at you and rolled my eyes! I love Stephanie and this whole world she has created. I keep praying that by some miracle she will continue; I really want to know what happens with Renesmee! And with Bella and Edward’s married life! But I would hope they wouldn’t make it into a movie because sometimes too many movies can just ruin it…Okay I could talk about this for days so I’ll just stop now. Peace, love and hope fellow Twi-Hards!
Marielle, I could talk about this for days as well! on and on and on I can go! we should do that! lol!
My highbrow reader friends tell me the books are silly and not well written at all. I just smile and sat “whatever”. They don’t get it but we do and we are enjoying every second of it.
There is something about those books that are INTOXICATING!! that is the only way to describe them. once you start you can’t stop. I find myself comparing other books Ive read to twilight and saying ” Naw, not as good!” nothing ever will be!!!
I too thought i would never say that i would be a twihard lol
after j.k. Rowlings beautiful series it was hard for me to read any other books bc i tried to compare them with hers. But i found stephenie meyers twilight series and it was like pouring gas to a faint flame. I loved how it was written. I too am a writer and can aknowledge how beautiful both writers are in their writings. So thank you both for giving me the courage to continue my writings as well. And to those who read them thank you.
Kelli do you have anything available to be read?
I love the Twilight Saga more than anything in the whole wide universe. It’s so hypnotizing(in a good way). You just can’t get enough of it.The books are so amazingly written.Love you Stephenie!
