Would You Want a Spin-off?

The Coventry Telegraph put together information from a series of interviews asked of the Twilight Saga movie producers at the Vision Awards.  By different reporters, they were asked about the future of the series. Additionally, reporters asked if they would ever consider some kind of spin-off featuring the Volturi. They said that they were committed to finishing the vision the Stephenie had but after that,

“Stay tuned. I think if our movies do as well as the first did all possibilities are out there. But right now we need to finish what we have and finish Stephenie’s vision as best we can and then let’s see where the audience demands us to go from there.”

You can see the whole summary here.

So, (keep in mind this is just speculation no contracts or anything like that exist)would you want some kind of spin-off?

  1. ape says:

I don’t know that I would unless Stephenie was behind it and the story lines and everything. If Stephenie wasn’t involved then I don’t think I would want to see anything else because it probably wouldn’t hold true to her vision.

    • lolly12 says:

I agree, I think I would only be interested in Stephenie were involved with the creation of the story. Maybe a Nessie/Jacob, but then again Stephenie would need to be the writer.

    • DetroitStyle says:

Agreed, because I don’t want things to be destroyed. I’m a huge fan, but if its a sucky storyline…I can really do without.

    • TwilightRulez14 says:

only if stephanie meyer was writing it and stuff

  2. FilDeCuivre says:

I’m not really sure about that. As an idea it would seem interesting and I’d love to see it but every spin-off’s I’ve seen haven’t been that great.

  3. Erynne says:

Agreed with above poster – if Stephenie were helping with the scripts/storylines, and if her stamp of approval were on each story, then maybe I’d be interested. Otherwise, no.

  4. Jade says:

Hmph. Maybe if they got Stephenie to chip in a whole lot on the storyline and script… then maybe. But idk. Not too promising.

  5. taylor says:

NO way!!!! dont’ do a spin-off they tried to hurt our beloved edward, and take bella so therfore i would want to go see a movie about them

  6. The Buffy: The Vampire Slayer televized spin-off from the movie, is remarkably better than the original movie. Buffy’s additional spin off, “Angel” was also an excellent edition, with exception of the last episode, of which was a real downer.
Most movie properties don’t usually follow the same path that the books do, such as the Jurassic Park series vs the books.
However, as Summit has dedicated itself to make the movies as close to the books as possible, it would be very hard for them deviate, even by a fraction.

For a “spin-off” series to work, they would have to stay true to Twilight cannon, and in reality, for the most part Stephenie ended her series giving almost EVERY character somewhat a happy ending.
The only unresolved issue is Leah’s story. While Leah gets somewhat a resolution, you still want her to find somebody to love.

Then comes a greater question… if it is going to be a series, what would be the driving force behind that series. While we love the books, I’m sure most of us would get tired of seeing, “Life and Times with Bella and Edward.” You would need more than that.

In my opinion, the series doesn’t set itself up to be a television series. It just doesn’t. Unless our team of vamps and wolves become monster hunters or something… Forks becomes its own Eerie Indiana. Honestly, I don’t think fans will buy it.

  7. Melanie says:

No, too many times good series are ruined by spin-offs. We don’t want the Twilight series to seem overdone, do we?

  8. KJ says:

Only if Stephenie wrote it. I think it would turn out horribly wrong if she didn’t. If these movies weren’t based on a book, maybe- but since they are, I say no thanks.

  9. Hannah says:

No offense to anybody but that sounds pretty corny and well, down right stuppid. Ha ha, who would honestly want to watch THAT!? Now don’t get all mad at me, I LOVE Twilight and Meyer, but that sounds kinda like one of those stupid ideas that people get when they hold on to a certain storyline too hard. Come on, sure Twilight does great as a book and a movie, but there’s such a thing as going way too far. And a prime time series starring the Volturi, well thats far fetched and unreasonable. Maybe hardcore Twihards (and as I said I AM one), might find that slightly entertaining in the beginning but it sure would get old pretty fast. Sound more like a silly fanfiction.

  10. Jo says:

This was on Lion and lamb love last week.
I’d like Stephenie’s approval and imput and I don’t want her writing it, in all honesty. It’s clear from Breaking Dawn that she only really likes writing nice characters and at heart, none of the Volturi are really that nice. Even if they are totally my favourite coven.
So, it would depend firstly whether it’d be a series or a movie.
I think a series would be a little too much.
Secondly, we haven’t seen the film yet, we don’t know if everyone can play the characters well. If not, they’re only going to get on my nerves as they ruin the best coven just about ever.
Also, it depends who’s involved in directing and writing. If they’re renowned for fluffy stuff…no thanks. I don’t want the aim of the thing to show ‘everyone has their fluffy side, let’s watch everyone get together’. No thanks. Obviously, everyone does have their good nice and it’d be nice to see but there’s also a very very very dark side to it which I’d be interested in seeing. So, I’m split.

  11. Erin says:

    No it would spoil it

  12. Sallie says:

I’d like to see a book written by Stephenie about the Voutri, but Spin off Movie? Thanks But, No Thanks.
It sounds too corny, but Like I said, I’d love to see the book.

  13. Sia says:

The answer is NO unless Stephenie helped with it ! I WON’T BE HAPPY AND I WON’T SEE IT UNLESS STEPHENIE HAS alot to do with it !
THIS IS STEPHENIE’S WORLD AND IT should stay that way !

  14. Amanda Bell says:

There were certainly some spirited responses to this question when raised back in April (http://www.examiner.com/x-4908-Twilight-Examiner~y2009m4d14-PostBreaking-Dawn-could-the-Twilight-series-make-a-good-television-show). Seems that most people are on the fence.

  15. papermoon says:

i doubt it. it doesn’t set up well as a series. it would end up being a FOTW series (freak of the week). if SM wrote a book on the Volturi, i’d read it, and if the book was good, then *maybe* a movie.

they could always do The Host. i think that would work as a movie or a series.

  16. J says:

    No

  17. Jon says:

The only way I’d be okay with it is if Stephanie wrote the script and was behind it every step; possibly co-producing.

  18. CC says:

I would love to see Stephanie finish Midnight Sun and have them product it. Secondly a prequel, about Edward before he met Bella would be interesting. As for the Volturi spin off, it would have to be written by Stephanie for me to be interested in it.

  19. oxSamm11 says:

Spin-offs rarely work (see Joey from friends) and
I would hate to see them ruin anything twilight related, it would take away from the real story. They would have to get new actors to play the v
Volturi because theres no way the are going to get Jamie Campbell Bower, Micheal Sheen or especially Dakota fanning to agree to a series. It just wouldn’t work.

  20. BloodSuckingLeech says:

    Where is Stephenie?

  21. Twilitex57 says:

i would say no. no one can right in the world of twilight except stephenie meyer.

  22. Catherine says:

I’m still on the fence about the spin-off idea. Part of me thinks it would be a good idea, to see more of the story but another part of me worries, because spin offs are rarely any good.

But if there was a spin off, the Volturi would be fun, but I’d like to see a Nessie spin off (sorry if that’s a spoiler).

  23. kelly says:

hmm can anyone please explain to me what in the meaning of spin-off?

  24. Love. Bite says:

The idea of a spin-off doesn’t really appeal to me as much as I thought it may. I mean, at the end of BD, I was seriously craving some more adventures from the Cullen Clan and the Volturi, don’t get me wrong. But the thought of someone actually venturing to do that is making me nervous. The last thing we need is someone other than SM tampering with her characters in an attempt to get more Twilighters (and non-twilighters) excited. I mean, isn’t it enough that we have the Twilight Saga–and the vague hope of DHN being published?

And, let’s be honest–spin-offs never really accomplish anything except for fans of the show/movie/book looking at the product and going, “Why the HECK did they decide to do this?” I really don’t want Twilighters to be turned off from the series because a group of people decided to have fun with the Volturi. Because, to put it bluntly, that would SUCK.

Lastly, I want to have SM’s comment on this. I would prefer her to actually write something, so instead of the producers randomly–and blindly– having a shot at it, they can base it off of something. That way, if it sucks, then we have reason to blame it on the producers for goofing up, instead of being mad at SM for giving them permission to mess up the Volturi, therefore letting them have no clue what they were doing. Even if they had SM there to coach them through it, we barely have enough info on the Volturi to really make a spin-off of it. So, it’d be a really blind shot, if you ask me.

  25. Allison says:

Course! I would love one. Worse comes to worse, its horrible and i only see it once. But i’m very interested in seeing more of that world explored.

  26. Paige says:

    HECK NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo

the board games, perfume, and stupid dolls are already too much.

  27. bookworm says:

Wow, everyone is saying no. Thats fair. But I think read somewhere on this board – and I could be wrong – that a Dr Cullan series would be interesting. I think that would be interesting. Especially because it’s set in the past… I just started thinking about the young indiana jones series.. yikes! That one didn’t go anywhere. Shesh! It’s almost a given that if a series was to be, it would just NEVER work!

  28. caravsangel says:

Only if a book by Stephenie comes first. If you are making films out of her work, fine. If they are making up their own crap? Not cool. No way can they get the same feel for the characters, because they are Stephenie’s characters… they are in HER head. No one else should be messing with them.
And I would of course really, really like more Twilight-related books by Stephenie. Don’t we all?

  29. Jessica says:

I agree with the above person only if the book came first from Stephanie. I am HOPING and PRAYING she will continue writing from the twilight universe. She has said she is interested in the wolves. Specifically Leah and i’d LOVE to know what was happening with Jacob and Renesmee. I’d LOVE that kind of spin off with Stephanie’s writing at the heart of it, but anything else is sure to be VERY VERY STUPID! Remember when they had a different script for Twilight and made Bella a track star. COME ON!!! Hollywood can mess up things when left to their own devises. I say NO SPIN OFF WITHOUT STEPHANIE AT THE CORE of anything twilight related!

    • angelicfruitcake says:

I agree with Jessica. They have already butchered the first book… I blame the screenplay! It affected not only the storyline but also Rob and K’s acting! SM should never have allowed it. I would personally love for SM to write all four books from Edward’s perspective, and a 4 part saga about Renesmee & Jacob living alongside the Cullens as well as more of Bella’s experiences as a vampire! Would’t that be great? :P

      • pami11195 says:

No. Not at all. n btw i lke dat u called her Renesmee instead of dat horrible nickname dat jacob gave her. TEAM EDWARD!

  30. I agree with mostly everybody that has commented so far. I would consider seeing it if stephenie wrote it and/or gave it her approval. Otherwise, no thanks.

  31. teri says:

    hell no

  32. Envy loves Wrath says:

No. Even with Stephenie involved… No. I was really unhappy with the way Breaking Dawn played out, as were other people, and i think it would be best to call the world of Twilight to a close with that. Anything else is kind of overkill.

  33. me says:

They are talking about a spin-off in the film series not a TV Series.
It’s a cash cow. they will make it and people will watch it.

  34. thehtic says:

i would like midnight sun to get finished but thats just me :)

  35. Imprintee says:

oh you know what thats so funny cause i was thinking about something like that acouple of month ago, so yes i would it would be on chanel 9 or something, and the most watched thing on television

  36. gigimm118 says:

They should only make movies if its the book I thibk a spin off would suck and mess up the whole twilight world

  37. Twilight's Flower says:

I actually think that a spin off for the wolf pack, mainly Leah, would be interesting. I’m sorry, but everyone is overdoing the whole “vampire thing”

    WE NEED WEREWOLVES! :)

    TEAM JACOB ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. Twilight's Flower says:

PS: it’s already WAAAAYY to late for “overdoing it.”

  39. MakeMeAVampire says:

i think that a spin off would either be unpopular and awful, or everyone will know about it and will be awful and ruin the twilight name.

  40. Eranin says:

Calm down ppl.IF there will be a movie about the Volturi, then surely Stephenie will approve it and co-write the script.Copyright issues, you know? The whole Twilight universe, the names and everything regarding is Stephenie’s property,so nothing can be done without her approval and I would love to see real vampires in action, nosferatu style.

And sth else,I’ve been reading fanfiction continuations for the Twilight Saga and some are really good, but it’s not the real deal.
There’s so much potential to the story yet and I am BEGGING Stephenie to continue the story.
I need more!PLease please please Stephenie!!!
Forget Midnight Sun and write about after BD!:(

  41. dee says:

    NO!!!

  42. Tricia says:

Only if Stephenie wanted to do it, of course. It wouldn’t be the same if she wasn’t really into the idea or if she simply permitted it to be done without her involvement.

  43. Jennifer says:

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! I cannot say it enough! “Joey,” anyone?!?!?! SPIN OFFS NEVER WORK (except for Frasier…)! And there is a reason.

  44. Swan says:

    Ditto here.

I’d love for Steph to write more about any and all of the characters, either in book or on her site. I’ going through withdrawal!

But I would want NO spin-offs of anything unless she was involved and behind it.

  45. jon says:

ew. this makes me think so much less of summit. even wb, who has recently been so $hady over hp6 with the delay, have stated time and time again that an hp movie not based on an hp book would never be made. ever. now if meyer wrote writes a spin-off (Jacob and renesmee is my first choice), I’m all for it. but otherwise, ew, no.

  46. jon says:

oh and to those who think they wouldn’t be able to do this over copyright issues, they own the rights to the series and characters therein, it’s actually completely within their rights to do this.

  47. Katy says:

Possibly. I think they could do a nice job with the Denali clan.

  48. Lucy says:

Only if Stephenie helped write it. I would definitely go see that movie :)

  49. Jordan says:

NO!!! No spin offs! At all! They should stop at BD. The only way it would be okay is if Stephenie writes it and all the same actors come back. Otherwise it will suck! I DO NOT agree! Don’t let it be like High School Musical! Doing a third one was going too far! Plus it stunk! I can’t believe they are even thinking about doin this. Why ruin an amazing story with spin offs! People just kill me with how stupid they are! Just let it end at BD unless Stephenie adds another one to the saga! NO NO NO!

  50. Heather says:

The only spin off I would want to see would be one that featured the Cullens. Everything else holds no interest for me.
