Perry Farrell’s Song Number 10

Spin magazine has come up with what they consider the worst movie songs of all time, and Perry Farrell’s Go all the Way Into the Twilight has made the list.

According to Spin, “It’s a good thing Perry Farrell reunited the original Jane’s Addiction’s lineup, because when that guy’s left alone bad things happen — like his contribution to 2008’s vampire-romance hit Twilight. Recorded with his wife Etty Lau Farrell, “Go All the Way (Into the Twilight)” is like watching your parents get drunk — it’s loud and embarrassing. From the cheesy Euro-techno melody to the painfully inane lyrics (“It was so smooth / Sparkle and shine / And it shined”), this song truly bites (pun dreadfully intended).”

Other notable songs on the list are by Steven Tyler, M.C. Hammer, Vanilla Ice, and Guns and Roses.

Comments

  1. haha yeah I always kinda did hate that one song..

  2. That’s the only song in the soundtrack that i don’t like at all: listened to that only once… maybe (I’m glad it’s really short in the movie).

  3. Shannon says:

I have to agree…the only song on the entire album that sucked.

  4. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I have never liked that song at all. I’ve always felt that, while the rest of the soundtrack is filled with music that reminds me of Stephenie’s playlists for the books, this song just sounds like something that doesn’t match at all. Yeah, I’m glad that I’m apparently not the only one. ^_^

  5. hahaha I think it makes enough sense for the short time it’s playing in the scene in the movie. After all, the prom is set up to give off a club atmosphere and Edward immediately asks Bella if she wants to leave XD

But yeah, I can’t listen to it on its own. I forced myself to get through it once (being a music nerd who needs to give everything a full chance), but I always skip it now. So terrible and vapid.

    • Hahaha, yeah, true! Edward immediately asks Bella if she wants to leave. I would too. When the song came up in the movie the first time I watched it, I cringed.
I listened to it once, just to give it a fair judgement, but that’s it. That song really is terrible. It’s the only song I don’t like on the soundtrack.

  6. YES! Hahaha! And the video is horrible too. It is the only song on the soundtrack that I refused to put on my ipod.

  7. Theresa says:

Oh gosh that song is so annoying. I’m glad I’m not the only one that can’t stand it.

  8. Aurimar says:

    I’ve never liked that song.
It’s just bad music, nothing more.

  9. bookworm says:

I skip that one or else it quickly gets stuck on repeat in my head driving me to having to stick my fingers in my ears and sing “LALALALALALALALA”
    :)

  10. Thank God someone acknowledging how truly awful this song is.

  11. Nightswimming says:

Aaahh… that’s too bad. Yes it’s a cheesy, horribly written song. But it’s still a fun song! As are most of Perry Ferrell’s creations. “Been Caught Stealing”? “Pets”? come on…

    • Katniss says:

I agree! Also Summeetime roles and I would for you are good. These people would never take the time to explore his other music though. If they did then they would understand his style more i think and be more open minded about it…but thats asking to much from kids this day and age.

  12. I can’t argue. I always skip this song. When Stephenie Meyer posted it on her site, before the movie came out, I couldn’t help but wonder when Edward and Bella would have time to hit a rave while running from James.

  13. Ya I really didn’t like that song much. It worked where they put it but if they are handing out awards I can think of better people.

  14. I have to agree it is one of the worst songs. I like every song on the soundtrack but that one I can’t stand.

  15. pretty sure it should be higher up on the list than #10…

  16. Krystol says:

See, I thought I was the only one who hated this song!! I always skip it when I get to it on the CD. Though, having it be the song they are listening to at Prom really fit. They played loud and obnoxious music at my Prom’s too.

  17. Excellent, always hated Perry/Jane’s Addiction.

  18. omg, yeah i really hate that song. it was the only really bad song on the whole soundtrack. the rest of the songs where great.

  19. Switzerland says:

    this song did suck.
i just thought it was really annoying.

  20. I agree. That song does suck on ice…

  21. I didn’t have a huge problem with it, but I must admit that it’s not the best :p

  22. Ha ha. This was definitely the worst song on the soundtrack. Good thing it was featured in a very short scene. The soundtrack would’ve been perfect if they’d replaced it w/ a much better song. How awesome would it have been if the Radiohead song that played over the end credits was on the soundtrack instead of Perry Farrell’s song?

    • I would like to correct you. You said “this was definitely the worst song on the soundtrack.” Where as I’d prefer to call it “the worst song ever”.

I bet people have skipped out on chinese water torture and just used this song instead. “OH NO! PLEASE NOT THIS SONG, I’LL TALK!! I’LL TALK!”

  23. i like it

  24. Yes, it’s an awful song. Something that’s reminiscent of eighties pornography. But that’s part of the fun.

  25. you know what, I don’t have strong feelings either way about the song- don’t love it, don’t hate it, BUT my 20 month old son loves it!!! he says “happy day happy day” when it comes on… I guess it is good for toddlers!

  26. sydtwimum says:

Well, I’m going to have to be different here and say I like this song…or actually, I just like the beginning, it’s my ringtone.. I like the intro of Happy Days..Happy Days…… I think some of the words are a bit cheesy but never really listen to the real song as my ringtone only goes for 30 seconds!

  27. The first thing the popped into my head when I heard this song was, honestly, WTF?! Seriously, even for the prom scene, I hated it. And everyone I asked said that they liked it! Now at least I know I’m not alone. I was afraid looking at the coomments that people would be angry…I guess not! :)

  28. So agreed. this song sucks. I skip it every time.

  29. lol, man am I in the minority. Its one of the only songs on that soundtrack that I love along with Muse and Linkin Park. I thought it was appropriate for the prom scene.
    Cheers!
    Sabrina

  30. Thank you God! That song was the only one that I could NOT stand. I skip it every time. It was ok for the prom, but I was glad that it was only there for a short amount of time.

  31. la_petite_femme says:

    WTF! I LOVE that song

  32. Befuddled says:

Count me in the “not like” group as well. The 80’s pornography comment made me LOL – the video goes right along with that comment! Terrible. Which makes me wonder how in the world it got on Stephenie Meyer’s website, let alone the soundtrack. And how come the other songs in the credits didn’t make it onto the soundtrack?

  33. I like the song. I pay more attention to the music than the words sometimes. I just love the whole soundtrack.

  34. Twifanatic Amanda says:

I think this song is fine for a prom. Not the best lyrics but the one thing that sucked was the music video. Ridiculous! Bahaha

  35. Twifanatic Amanda says:

I think this song is fine for a prom. Not the best lyrics but the one thing that was really terrible was the music video. Ridiculous! Bahaha

  36. I totally agree. That song is so corny, that it’s embarrassing to listen to.

  37. Larissa says:

I am also in the minority. I liked this song. The music fit. The lyrics, well they are interesting, but I like them.

    • lol, Larissa! What’s that make, three of us now? I enjoy it for what it is. A catchy, upbeat number created for the prom scene. I’ll keep listening to it while I run on my treadmill despite all the negative press its now getting :-)
      Cheers!
      Sabrina

    • Honestly, I’ve kind of liked the song as well. Reading this article, I was prepared for the angry fans, only to find…well. Agreeing fans.

  38. La Bruja says:

It’s not one of his best songs obviously..BUT Perry Farrel will always rule in my book.
He is SO much more capable of doing better love songs actually. My favorite by him is called..”I would for you” but by Janes Adddiction when he was in it. I WISH you guys would look up that song and see that this guy really is talented.

    • TOTALLY agree with you La Bruja. He is very talented, Jane’s Addiction is and always will be an awesome band. I LOVE ‘I Would For You’ it’s one of my favorite songs by them. Summertime Rolls too :)

    • Oh yeah, the song on the soundtrack does kind of suck though….sorry Perry, I love you but come on!!

  39. La Bruja says:

Thanks Jaime! It’s good to know that someone else around here has AT LEAST heard more of his music and isn’t just slandering his solely on the song on the twilight soundtrack. Glad I’m not the only one pne minded around here. Oh and I LOVE summertime rolls too!!!!!!!

  40. La Bruja says:

Sorry lots of misspelled stuff in my comments but i’m typing fast. you know what i mean though.

  41. AlbertaJenn says:

I kind of like the song. I like the tempo, the beat. The lyrics are bit of a cheesy attempt to make the song fit the movie. As for worst, surely there are enough bad 80s movies movies with horrible anthems that would rank higher than this.

  42. Katniss says:

Am I the Only one that realizes that the teenage and young adults are getting more and more close minded as the years go by. After reading these comments it makes me extremly happy that i didnt grow up in this day and age. Geez.I may be an old Hag but i guarantee every comment on have only hre dissing Farrel is from people that heard this song by him.

  43. Katniss says:

oops.meant guarantee almost every comment on here dissing Farrel is from people who havent heard ANY of his other music exept the one on the Twilight soundtrack.

  44. I really like this song a lot! It is great to listen to if you are a runner! It really gets you going!

  45. It’s not that bad. I have heard much worse.

  46. La la, La la, La la, la la la la……

So take me, take me, take me.

    Nope, not a fan.

  47. I don’t think people are necessarily dissing Farrell. It’s just that they don’t like this particular song. Just because he has one song that a lot of people don’t care for, that doesn’t make him a bad artist.

  48. I love this song. It was one of my favs from the soundtrack.

  49. Okay, looking at Spin, where is he? There is really only nine shown. The first page is #1 and page #10 loops back to that front page… I see no Perry listed here?

  50. Sterling Snow says:

Yeah, I pretty much hate this song. :)
