Comments on: David Slade to Direct Eclipse

I just watched 30 Days of Night so I could see what David Slade can do. Thumbs up on the fight scenes–I think he’ll succeed in making the battles in Eclipse intense, suspenseful, and graceful. And the newborns will, I think, look great.

I’m not confident about his ability to do emotional scenes, though. I’m not sure if 30 Days of Night’s story really just centers around the bloodbath, but the parts concerning character development and relationships just felt…flat to me. Even scenes that were supposed to be sad did nothing to make me feel for anyone.

I hope he digs deep into the series to really grasp what it’s about, and maybe he can a heart-to-heart with Steph about effectively presenting the romance and the heartbreak of Edward/Bella/Jacob.

OK. I’ve seen 30 Days of Night. It was gory, but the story line was ok. I think that it is kinda funny that he’s doing another vamp movie, but it is so different from 30 Days…I’ll be interested to see how this will turn out.

So, as I was saying, 30 Days was gory. A lot of good, epic, gory fighting. So, that battle with Victoria and the new borns? Oh, I look forward to that.

So, Mr. Spade, I can’t wait to see how Eclipse will turn out in your hands.

I am a little bit sad for this decision. Haven’t seen hard candy but 30 days of night is a very bad movie in my opinion. The flow is bad and there are many scenes with illogical situations.

I just hope that David Slade doesn’t ruin Eclipse, is my favorite book!!!

Doesn’t anyone here realize that Drew Barrymore had a lot to do with the making of Donnie Darko which is an amazing peice of cinema and I think she deserves a little respect true she didn’t direct it but she produce the whole damn thing.

I freakin hated 30 Days of Night. I really really did. And I too am ashamed ot admit that I saw it in theatres. To me the filming was very “video game” and I think it would have made an awesome video game. Did you see Silent Hill? I loved Silent Hill the movie because the first half of it was SO exactly like the game. I mean every camera angle was like taken straight fromt he gmae and I loved it because that’s what it was supposed to be. 30 Days of Night was like watching a video game movie without ever having seen or played the game. It was so lame. He better not eff it up is all I’m saying.

I saw hard candy and IT’S A MUST WATCH!!! as for 30 days, I personally like it. The vampires are a complete opposite of Meyers and I love it. I just don’t know how Slade will work with Eclispse. His stuff is so dark and edgy…
(well now that i think about it it might work…) we shall have to wait and see

I too hope David Slade will do an amazing job. I have seen just a bit of 30 Days of Night, and it is indeed very dark. I hope you are correct about making a different movie everytime. But, that makes me wonder what was it about this guy that would cause Summit to hire him? Previous experience with vampires? I know the severed limbs part was creepy, but really, it was only a few seconds out of a very long book. Even considering the whole newborn part of the story, this is a romance. I just hope Stephenie steps up to the plate for her characters.

I’ve never seen ANY of this guy’s movies. He seems like a type of guy who would “macho” up a romantic/thriller movie and turn it into a blood fest/action type. He needs to understand that the TWILGHT SAGA has a primarily female audience and he needs to hold back on the gore….ok, ok, mabey a little gore for the battle.

I’m glad to see that some people are giving Slade a chance… Seriously, guys, just because the vampires in 30 Days of Night were completely different from Twilight vampires, doesn’t mean that he’s going to try to use the 30 Days of Night version in Eclipse. That’s not the way directing works at all… You don’t make the exact same movie over and over.

That said, I’m optimistic about this. It’s great to have someone directing Eclipse who has experience with making horror films. Yes, Twilight is a romance series, but compared to Twilight and New Moon, Eclipse has a lot more horror and suspense in it. (May I remind everyone of the severed limbs in the battle sequence with Victoria? CREEPY.) I have a feeling he’ll bring a lot of experience to those battle scenes, and that’s important. Obviously, we all hope he’ll be able to pull off the romance as well, but that remains to be seen.

In the meantime, I wish him the best of luck! Chris Weitz seems to be doing an amazing job, and I hope David Slade will too.
