Add Kim Kardashian to the list of young Hollywood interested in snagging a part in the Twilight Saga movies. People magazine reports that Kim told Popeater:
“I would like die to be in Twilight, being around all those hot guys. I want to be a vampire.”
We’re having trouble seeing her in New Moon since it’s pretty much cast, and we doubt Kim wants to be the third Volturi from the left.

Well, Kim is at least beautiful enough to be a vampire. Based on the first film my standards for the acting have gone way down (meaning the acting from a select few was so bad that it really couldn’t be much worse), so I am not so much concerned with the acting as the looks (especially concerning the vampire roles). Plus I would rather have a legit Twilight fan be cast. I am not saying I want her in any of the films, but her being cast would definately not be the worst thing to happen to the Twilight films.
You’re more concerned with looks than the acting? I thought the acting was fine in Twilight, but that’s just my opinion, as you have yours. So Kim has the looks to be a vampire, so what? well in my opinion (many critics share this opinion) the lead actress in the first film didn’t do much besides stare blankly with her mouth open and occassionaly stutter. So, if that’s what we are working with from the first film, my expectations for the acting are not that high, so they might as well get someone who is pleasant to look at. Not saying Kim neccessarily, but the vampires are supposed to be amazingly gorgeous.

Where did you ever get the impression that I dislike Stephenie Meyer? I am obviously a huge fan of her books. I respect her both as a person and as an author. I have NEVER said anything negative about her. Just because I wasn’t impressed with the movie does not mean I don’t like the books or SM. The reason why I was so unhappy with the movie is because I felt it totally butchered the wonderful story Stephenie wrote. If you are going to accuse someone of something at least make sure you have something to back it up.

Well we aren’t really bickering. I believe that women who have power in Hollywood should use it to make decent movies. Catwoman stunk and it is how I remember Hallie. Others are more generous.
So, in your opinion, was Twilight a decent movie? I do not feel that Catherine or Melissa did women in Hollywood any favors by putting the movie out. Halle Berry however has done some beneficial things for females in Hollywood.
I know it wasn’t a great film, but I personally thought it was pretty good. I think what Catherine did with it was pretty good too. She took a YA novel and made a movie that wasn’t teeny bopper-ish, and the screenwriter kept as close to the book as she could. I remember reading that there were other scripts out there that were so completely different than the story, and Catherine really wanted to keep as close to the book as possible. She worked with Stephenie throughout the whole process, which is pretty rare for a director to do. I think Catherine and Melissa did a whole lot of women in Hollywood favors by putting out a film that is in fact a love story that made a whole lot of money that wasn’t boring, had interesting characters and brought in new fans who only started reading the series after watching the movie.

I personally thought the film was excruciatingly boring. I almost couldn’t sit through it the first time. The second time I made it through because I had already braced myself. I also thought the development of the “love” was very weak. Good thing everyone didn’t dislike the movie as much as I did though. Otherwise they would have scrapped New Moon and started over with a new cast in 5 years. I am looking forward to New Moon though.
omg i agree with your rachel. the movie was so boring and the developement of their love was so sped up and unrealistic. Kristen’s acting was horrible too, so monotone and did not have the chemistry that everyone for some reason think there was. obviously they havent seen real love stories. I just hope it improves in New Moon, especially Kristen’s acting. (i dont think shes a bad actress but i think she was not casted in the right role)

Technically, she CAN’T be in Twilight the movie. Twilight has already been filmed and is on DVD. So, I don’t see that being possible. People have to be more careful about what they say. This just shows that she wants the publicity and knows nothing about the books.

Hi Rachel: I think Twilight is a very enjoyable movie. It has a fresh energy and it feels honest. Of course I like the Twilight books better. But I like the Harry Potter books more than the movies too. What I worry about is once they see it as a success then they will schlock it up with product placements. Hollywood has sold out entire lead female characters to Victoria’s secret, etc before and garbagized entire movie in the process. They really take female audiences for granted.
Yes I think Catherine and Melissa did women a favor with Twilight. First let me say I consider myself a feminist and as you all know I have a son Robs age so I am not young. In my opinion the men who run Hollywood have seen and portrayed only one side of female sexuality and that is the side where females dress up and parade around for male approval which is the part that benefits males. But Catherine, Melissa and Stephanie have brought out the other side of female sexuality, the side where women sit on their average sweat panted bums and check out hot men. And since I would bet that Twilight is the top netting film of 2008 perhaps this will become a new and very profitable genre. As far as Kristen’s acting goes, for this genre to work she has to be underplayed because Bella is just a placeholder for many of the girls who see the movie and feel they themselves are in the Bella role. Most female characters as portrayed in movies are unrelatable to girls(Catwoman).

I am all for female respect and equal rights. However, I do not feel that Melissa or Catherine did females in Hollywood any favors. If anything, they just played into the steriotypes of females in Hollywood, which means they took one step back. I support female progress, but I will not vote for a female for president just because she is female.
I don’t think they played into female stereotypes at all. If anything, they did the opposite. I felt even the girls who had smaller roles were memorable, instead of being blended into the background because they’re not important enough. How did they take a step back when the whole time they were pushing to get the story as close to the book as they could? and actually bringing in the author of the series to get every last detail right is pretty amazing. I think that “taking one step back” is your opinion, which you’re entitled to. But my opinion is that they took things one step further, especially Catherine. I think it all came out pretty good, considering the budget they had.
One more thing, I must say that I do not find it difficult to relate to many women featured in the typical Hollywood films. I could relate with Bella on some level in the books, but the movie, definately not. That being said, I guess it is a good thing that at least some women could relate to Bella in the movie. I am much more feminine than Bella (in the movie especially), and therefore she held little to no interest for me (meaning I viewed her as closer to a male than female). Obviously we are not all the same, so we do not view things the same way.
I’m waaaay more feminine than Bella in the movie, but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t relate to her. There were numerous scenes where I could feel what she was feeling, whether it be insecure, awkward, determined, frisky…..;) whatever it was, I was right there with her. In typical Hollywood films, like romantic comedies for instance, they seem so unreal that the characters are almost impossible to relate to, not to mention the actresses are always beyond gorgeous. This was a VAMPIRE movie, involving teenagers, a girl who’s never had surgeries to enhance her looks but is still pretty, and it was still relatable! That’s just how I see it though, I realize (as you said) we’re all different and do not view things the same way.
