Summit announced to the subscribers of TwilightTheMovie.com via email that Dakota Fanning is now officially cast as Jane. If you haven’t signed up for alerts from that site it’s really worth it. Subscribers got a text message signed by Rob and Kristen back in November announcing that New Moon was green lit.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Alec doesn’t even appear in New Moon (and subsequently Breaking Dawn if/when they make it). I can see them consolidating the twins’ roles into just one character, like they did with Ben/Eric in Twilight.
oh, yay! Dakota Fanning is a pretty good actress, and I think she’ll do the part well
and Danny Chipman, I think that Alec may not appear in New Moon, but def. BD, b/c his power is important

She is giving this movie credibility also, and you know anti-Twi fans love hating on the movie!

Thank you belloo! Exactly my point. I personally think Dakota would make an amazing jane, but I’m not going to go around saying she’s the best she’s going to be the best because no one knows what she will be like in the movie.
I’ll give you a reason she wouldn’t be a good Jane, she is in all of these movies that shes such a sweet little girl, lalalalalal, now shes a vampire, it doesn’t work! I mean i love her work but..
&& we want the unknowns because the unknowns because they want to be in it becuase its twilight, not because its the next big thing

Jane, not to be critical, this movie already has plenty of credibility. And I doubt it needs a Dakota Fanning to boost media coverage. Everything Twilight is under the media microscope. Just ask Kristen or Rob or Kellen or Ashley. If anything, this is a feather in HER cap for signing on.

She’s an amazing actress and I think she’ll be able to go past the “cute little girl” stage-hey, Jane is supposed to be a bit charming in a sick, sadistic way.
Finally it’s offical I’m soooo excited! I love Dakota and I all ways wanted her to play Jane. I mean Ever since her name was out there for the role of jane she the only person I could think of.
I’m so happy she got the part!!! She is exactly how I pictured Jane in the books. She is definitly going to do a great job. The only thing I am wondering about now is who they will get to play Alec.

Twilight, as much as I love it, was not respected – or credible enough – to even garner a lousy music award at the Oscars. A lot of people think it’s a tween joke.
Dakota will add credibility because surely an A-list actor wouldn’t act in a lame film, right?
Everyone in the fandom really need to relax! Take a xanax! There is no sense in makeing so much out of nothing! Summitt is STILL a small studio no matter how many films they have put out this year or last.”Twilight” was they’re big money winner,but they are still small buissnes wise.Therefore the budget is going to be limited! Stop worrying about how much the actors are getting paid. Worry more about the CGI and the script,stuff that is more valid then whether you like Dakota Fanning or not!
I think she will do good as Jane… But you guys all know the she didn’t get into this movie for the “Fame” right???… she has a crush on Robert…:P this guy that talk to her once and ask her if she would be able to keep herself together while acting with him…lol she said “he’s very very cute but I think I’ll do fine”…hahaha I just thought that was kinda funny
but that’s why I was a little worried and just cause Robs very good looking, I hope that doesn’t bother her Acting in the movie, I want her to do well, I think all of us do, even the ones that don’t like her, there is nothing they can do about it so they probably want her to do good also. I just know shes still very young and young girls that have a crush on someone they tend to be very unfocused… but me I hope she does well 
“negotations” doesn’t always just mean salary. There are also potential other projects on her plate.They could have already approached her about not just “NM” but about “Eclipse” and “Breaking Dawn” also. The biggest,most important factor…she is still underage. There is alot of legality concerned!
Again,this is a buissness! RELAX!!!! Give the girl a chance! If you haven’t seen any of her work I can seriously recommend “Taken”,it is a Stephen Spielberg mini series that she did as a kid.She was so amazing in it for a young kid under 10. Stop judging what you don’t know from knowledge and experience!

Oh joy. Now when I see Jane it’s gonna be “oh look, it’s Dakota Fanning.” -_- I’d rather have unknown actors play the parts that way the character will really come to life.
Hm. I like Dakota, she has a LOT of talent. And I’m sure she will do great. I’m kinda wondering how she will look though…Let the photoshopping begin!

I think she’ll do an alright job as Jane. She wasn’t my first choice, but you can’t change their decision. I’m just glad that I finally know who it is.
And to Jane a couple of comments up. Compared to The Reader, Slumdog Millionaire, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Milk, The Dark Knight, Twilight probably would’ve never been nominated for an award let alone win.
And Dakota Fanning said she ‘was a fan of Twilight’ so of course she’d probably maybe want in on the movie.

Creamy, as Jane said, the Twilight movie was NOT respected.
Dakota is a way bigger name than anyone else in the movie, she is not doing the movie for fame. Obviously. And as someone already stated, no matter who they cast as Sam or Jane, it doesn’t matter. Both parts are so small compared to the starring roles that no one should be overly concerned with who they cast for them (especially if they choose someone that already is a talented actress).
Now lets focus on what really matters. Acting classes for KS, RP, and most of all, TL!
I’m very excited to hear this. Dakota Fanning is very well known BECAUSE she’s good at her craft. I don’t think we should concern ourselves with the money aspect either because any fan (and she says she is one)doesn’t do this project for the money alone…they do it as an honor to be apart of the movie. The thing I worry about is alec, or any one role that could go to another younger actor. All I have to say is…NO DISNEY ACTORS OR ACTRESSES!!!!! Anything else I’m fine with, aside from replacing the key roles…but that would require summit being complete idiots to make that choice. Just NO DISNEY ACTORS or ACTRESSES. That’s all I have to say. which means…NO LUCAS GRABEEL.

i think dakota will do a great job as jane, and i can totally see her as jane, but another part of me really wished that they didn’t cast her bc she is too big (in regards to fame). i wish they wouldve given other people who arent as big a chance like they did in twilight. i am still really excited for new moon, and i cant wait to hear who else has been casted…

famous actors tend to be famous for a reason, because they’re GOOD actors
hence the “famous part”
now that’s not always true, sometimes the actors really aren’t very good
but in this case i think it’s fine, dakota fanning is a good actress and will be a good jane.
I’m kinda impartial to this. I’m just happy we’re finally getting a semi cast list. Best of luck to her, and I do hope that she stays on for the last two movies. I have to say that it is sloppy when they have to keep switching actors for roles.

If you saw her in “Secret LIfe of Bees,” you’ll have no doubt she is AMAZING! (and she has grown out of the slightly annoying childhood stage).
OK, I understand about your point on credibility, however, I can’t really agree that Dakota Fanning can accomplish that.
If the adaptation is well done, the acting and directing are on a level we all know they can be, then New Moon will create it’s own credibility.
Yes, there were snarky remarks about Twilight. Hollywood isn’t known to be a warm and fuzzy place for newcomers. But, as Twilight hit it out of the ballpark financially, these movies are being viewed with more respect. Let’s be honest, the vast majority of movies would not classify as ‘art house’ movies. I don’t think Twilight the movie has anything to be ashamed of as far as content goes. Most anyone who still critcizes it might be a tad jealous. (my opinion of course)
And, with the release for the Twilight DVD two weeks from today (!!!!!), the final money total is sure to zoom up even more.
If it seems I am focusing too much on the money aspect, we know, even it we hate this part, if it hadn’t done as well, we would not already have Eclispe, the movie to look forward too. And maybe Breaking Dawn as well.
I can’t answer as to why Dakota wanted to be in this film. It seems the opportunity to be part of such a hot property may have been the draw. She hadn’t read the books even, I believe.
And, to Melissa: LOL!! Maybe you should join the CGI folks. Great visual!
All righty. Time to watch all her movies and bring myself to like her… as I did with the other Twilight actors I didn’t like. Surely, in time, I’ll like her as Jane.

As for her being too known of an actress, dear god, that is the lamest and most pathetic excuse in the world, get over it!!! Like Avery said famous actors are famous for a reason becasue they’re really good, espacailly Dakota! Jane is probably just a ten minute role anyway. So take a chill pill or something, geez. Now her pay check i am not worried about either,i am pretty sure she’s willing to take a budget cut. We don’t know how much Rob and Kristen are getting paid either, but i don’t its less than Dakota becasue they are the lead role.
i dont mind her being cast as jane, but when the time comes to make Breaking Dawn wont she look a lot oldler? because in the next to years she might change a lot…it means they will probably have to rush to make it and it wont be as good. but i dont mind, as long as it is made!

I didn’t picture Jane looking like her; I thought of her as a bit chubby for some reason, but I do agree that having an “A” lister in the movie will help the franchise greatly.

on a side note, I read in an interview with Kristen Stewart that filming for New Moon kicks off March 23, does anyone know if thats true? And also, does anyone know where exactly in Vancouver they will be filming? Because me and my friend think either Capilano or up near Squamish, as its forested and sort of remote and out of the city.. any ideas??
