Well now there is a new twist in the Vanessa Huggens tale of did she or didn’t she audition for the part of Leah Clearwater. Apparently just like Just Jared (who got an entirely different answer direct from Vanessa’s management) Access Hollywood did a little of its own verification and according to Access Hollywood (who is standing by their source which is not the MTV source although it remains unnamed)
Vanessa has auditioned for the role of Leah Clearwater, the series’ lone female werewolf, and is “up for the role,” a source close to Summit Entertainment confirmed.
However, “no official casting announcement has been made,” the source added.
So that leaves us with:
Just Jared directly quoting Vanessa’s management as "“I don’t know anything about the audition,” Vanessa’s rep tells JJJ. “As far as I know, it’s just a rumor."
Summit who won’t confirm or deny the rumor when asked, pretty much standard policy.
MTV stating Ashley Greene confirmed it, but doesn’t have her direct quote on that.

I’m having a hard time understanding why they are even casting Leah. She is not an active character in New Moon. I don’t really have an opinion on Vanessa though, never saw High School Musical.
All I can say is please, please, please, please NO. NOT HER.
I have to disagree. Majorley. Ugh. Vanessa Hudgens?! No! Just. NO! I want New Moon to be fantastic. Even though it’s most sad, New Moon just happens to be my favorite book of the Saga. I don’t want a disney star making it any more commercial than it has already gotten!

I would need to see her act as Leah before i make my decision because remember when Robert was cast as Edward everyone was like EWW! but after he showered and combed his hair all the girls were falling all over him

Its weird because to a point I don’t mind V. as Leah AS LONG AS SHE DOES IT WELL, but don’t get me wrong- I hate HSM with a passion… But who knows- its all up in the air..
I honestly don’t think she could carry the role of Leah. Leah is a bit more strong minded and has more individuality and spunk, were as Vanessa comes off as the type that “goes with the crowd” and she doesn’t seem like she could act like, well, a Werewolf! just my opinion, but I don’t know her personally. I just prefer that they use actors that aren’t so popular. I love seeing new faces on the big screen

I really really feel like screaming.Vanessa will NEVER be able to portray ANY Twilight character,let alone Leah’s role.She just can’t fit in the Twilight world.I really hope it’s a rumor.The worst thing is that Leah doesn’t even appear in New Moon so why on earth is ANYONE going to audition for Leah’s role?
I’m not one to be mean at all when it comes to casting or acting or whatever, but if Vanessa Hudgens was cast as Leah it may induce sickness.

No. That will not work at all. It takes a certain aura to be a person like Leah, and I just don’t think she’d be able to pull it off. Plus, I’d like to see the look be more Native American than hispanic or asian…

I am with the anti-Vanessa crew. She’s awful. Twilight is NOT HSM. I’m also against “giving her a chance to branch out.” Since when did the Twilight saga become responsible for doing bad actors favors? Put someone in the role who doesn’t NEED any favors. Someone that will be GOOD. The actors should help the movie – not the other way around.
