Apparently just like Just Jared (who got an entirely different answer direct from Vanessa’s management) Access Hollywood did a little of its own verification and according to Access Hollywood (who is standing by their source which is not the MTV source although it remains unnamed)
Vanessa has auditioned for the role of Leah Clearwater, the series’ lone female werewolf, and is “up for the role,” a source close to Summit Entertainment confirmed.
However, “no official casting announcement has been made,” the source added.
So that leaves us with:
Just Jared directly quoting Vanessa’s management as "“I don’t know anything about the audition,” Vanessa’s rep tells JJJ. “As far as I know, it’s just a rumor."
Summit who won’t confirm or deny the rumor when asked, pretty much standard policy.
MTV stating Ashley Greene confirmed it, but doesn’t have her direct quote on that.
Access Hollywood sticking by: "Vanessa has auditioned for the role of Leah Clearwater, the series’ lone female werewolf, and is “up for the role,” a source close to Summit Entertainment confirmed."
We give up. We don’t know what to believe.

This is about ethnicity.
There is great pride in being Native American.
I would think that Native American actors out there would be happy at the thought of such great roles to play in this series, and I hope Hollywood gives them the chance. Gone are the days of the old Westerns, when the “Indians” were played by white men in make up, or are they??
What the HELL is wrong with these people?

Just because Vanessa AUDITIONED for the role, doesn’t mean she GOT the role.
But in my opinion, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this girl does NOT get the role…

just wait it out,. RUMORS fly all over. try to learn from last year and just breathe. it will work itself out. i dont even want to think about the last years auditions and casting DRAMA. but those who remember, you should remember that it did work itself out, and for those new fans, we promise it will be OK. even if they DO cast her, in some random chance, its ok! because you will get over it, and if you dont, then that sounds like a personal problem. so PLEASE breathe!!
you all know what i mean. its gonna be a bumpy next few weeks with casting stuff. i remember when they casted jasper and alice and ROSALIe and esme (i loved emmett/kellen. always have always will) but it was a wierd adjustment at first, but it will be OK. wait for these rumors to die or be confirmed. until then, dont stress it will be OK.

No. Just… No. It would KILL the Twilight series as we know it. I like Leah as a character, but if Vanessa gets cast, I will be very, very angry. I don’t want some HSM ditz to come in and ruin this for us.

god I really hope not……. I cannot stand her…. If they cast her I give up. I love stephenie mayer and I would love to support her but I feel like hollywood is killing this magical world. maybe ill just stick to reading the books. =(

Vanessa Hudgen’s isn’t tough enough to play Leah.
It needs to be a strong actress.
Vanessa has this really innocent, pretty face.
While Leah is supposed to be somewhat attractive, she’s a tough girl who’s got some major problems.
Disney channel stars can’t portray that kind of emotion.
I don’t think the girl can act. This could be because Disney doesn’t call for depth in their characters- they call for goodlooking kids who can throw out snappy lines. But if all she’s done is HSM, I don’t think she’s prepared to take on a role as deep as Leah. Maybe Emily, who is a small part with very little depth to her character. Or Kim, even. I would have been fine with Vanessa playing one of the Forks high school teens. But not Leah.
That being said… You know how much money Summit would be passing up by /not/ casting her? They’d be passing up on making money from the Disney crowd, the young teens who are just starting to get into things like Twilight. You can bet that that will be part of the casting considerations.
And you know… She’s only rumored to have auditioned, people. Once she starts getting rumored about being cast, then I’ll worry. Otherwise the hype is just too much.

I noticed immediately on the Just Jared story that VH’s “management” – whoever that ONE person was – spoke only in the first person did NOT specifically deny that she auditioned.
Okay for real if they cast her I wont go see that movie! I refuse to watch the High School Musical movies because she is in them. She cant act, she cant sing, shes a teeny bopper, the only people who like her are 6 year old’s, who also like Miley Cyrus. GROSS!!! there are so many better people they could cast. So please pick one of them.
I just can’t imagine why not just Vanessa but anybody is being considered for the role of Leah? How much have they (Melissa Rosenberg, Summit, The Powers That Be) changed the plot? Leah wasn’t even in this book! I think she was only mentioned! Now, THAT scares me! I loved the book, I think it’s perfect just the way Meyer wrote it. Now, I understand that you can’t fit all that into two hours of film; but please tell me that they have not re-written the whole thing! and that the movie will be totally different from the book!! I want to cry now.

But, I’ve seen this on the news too…I think that people are just trying to make something out of nothing.
I’m a stickler for details. As far as I know Vanessa Hudgens is not Native American, or half for that matter. If they want to keep New Moon authentic, they’ll hire actors that actually fit into the category they are looking for. Hopefully this comment doesn’t offend anyone, it’s not meant too. Just saying, they should stick to the details.
This is a deja vu when it comes to the soap opera the fandom had to endure for the last month with the Jacob Black Crisis, but regardless on whether one is for or against her, she’s not my idea of Leah, but Weitz probably has an idea of how he wants the wolf pack to appear as in age range, I would not be suprised if they all were within Taylor’s age range, maybe people a year or two older barring Sam which means the wolves probably won’t look anything like the vamps in age, they will probably “appear” to be teenagers (this is my theory), and I know they look like people in their late 20s ,so if she “were” cast that would probably fit the pattern he has with his lead wolf. Weitz is doing Eclipse too, so he’s probably looking long term and I’m sure Steph Meyer will have a say in who plays Leah, so if she believes she can embody Leah’s qualities then…we’ll wait and see.
if you want the most annoying actress out there, then they should definitely go for Vanessa. why would they dumb New Moon down by choosing her? If they want to be taken seriously, then get a serious actress. If they cast her, they better not make up a musical number for her to sing. gag me.

Well first of all I wish the press would stop asking Ashley questions about the movie…mainly the casting of the movie. She is not the spokesperson for it and probably only knows as much as the people asking the questions. Second, even if Vanessa has auditioned I can’t see her plying Leah, see is too sweet for the role and Leah is a B****. Now I could see her playing the role of Emily. I she would be perfect for that. That’s my 2 cents.

Taylor, even after doing Sharkboy, was okay for Jacob because Sharkboy was several years ago. However, Vanessa is too fresh off of the High School Musical movie-dom for my taste. I’d really prefer someone else get the role. Really, really prefer it.
Alright, I know that I’m being completely repetitive because about a million people have already said this, but in my opinion, the girl can’t act. I’d love to see a new actress that no one’s ever heard of. Also, I think that it’s slightly ridiculous that this is such a big deal right now, being that Leah is in very little of New Moon… but whatever, I guess.

Please, do not make Vanessa Leah. I can’t take any more of this Twilight drama. The whole “switching Taylor” thing I was freaking out about and now this. I don’t think my mind can handle all of this stress lol. But still, Vanessa can not act at all. I hated her in HSM. She was so bad in it and kinda annoying to me, no offense. Leah is supposed to be kinda dark and sarcastic and Vanessa can’t do that. Twilight should have the cast of people who aren’t really well known, and that’s the way it should be. Oh, and if Vanessa was Leah, we would be watching the movie and all of a sudden she would pop right into a song so PLEASE no Vanessa!

If summit is smart they will steer clear of Disney. I loved the sense of security I felt with Catherine as director, I had faith in her. But as for the Chris. . . my faith in him is slowly dwindling.

I have nothing against Vanessa, but she seems like a super-cheerful (almost nauseatingly so) which is definitely NOT the kind of person is. I just don’t see her as a moody, heartbroken, bitter werewolf.
I know that people had their doubts about Rob playing Edward, but this is totally different. While this movie is a “teen” movie, it still has a sophistication to it. I think Vanessa’s presence would enfringe on that.
I have no problem with her, but I didn’t think she should/could be Leah.

Honestly, Vanessa is a cute girl and I understand that she may want to stretch her wings role-wise, but I’d really rather not think of HSM every time i see her in Twilight movies (and I would, we all would). Love HSM, love Disney…but they’re both separate from the Twilight world that i know and love. Geez, i feel like the bigger Twilight gets, the harder it is for it to maintain the integrity of the magical “happy place” it was for all us from the start…
I think this whole problem is having a male director this time around. All the movies in Hollywood (which don’t make one tenth the money of Twilight) are directed by men who direct the actresses look and act in unnatural ways. And if that happens in New Moon we won’t show up. And they better leave out the makeover, fashion references, lingerie prancing and the rest of the male director female character cliches. Yeah I know this stuff isn’t in the book however I can just see the male director trying to make the original “better” with tarts like VH and other schlock.

There may be some HSM/Twilight fans out there but people who really take stock in this Franchise; that love it as much as most of us do will not be happy with this casting!
i totally agree with everybody on here and when i found out i told all of my friends the ones who read all of the books and saw the movie and they all felt the same way! and she would ruin the movie and then she would become the new star of new moon and everybody agree’s with what i say that she should not become a character in new moon or anything! she sould just stay in high school musical! thats what i say!
