I'm not sure where your family in Forks came up with the $14 million number, azsure, but it's not an official estimate. There is no official estimate for saving a portion of the old building, since the school district can't afford to do that without some financial assistance. It sounds like we're mixing the TFF proposal up with the $15 million bond proposal being forwarded by the school district. That's a different concept and is not dependent on TFF project. If you go to the TFF page (www.forksforum.com/twilighters) you'll see that the plan is to try save as much of the old school building as possible. The plan isn't to preserve the building exactly "as is." Everyone agrees the students deserve a better facility. The group is coordinating with the Quillayute Valley School District and will do as much as possible with the funds raised. It may turn out that a portion of the old building can be incorporated into a new design, for example. It's discouraging and inaccurate to suggest that this project has a $14 million dollar price tag, though. This project seems like a forward-thinking idea that may help preserve some of your family's memories. Let's get on board with helping to raise funds and use them in the most positive and meaningful way possible. Thanks to the Lex and everyone who has contributed for your support!!

I grew up in Forks and graduated from there about 15 years ago. My wife and I read these books and enjoyed them. We have family still in Forks and visit often. They told me about the (possible) demise of the "old" building. I hate the idea, as I have fond memories of attending school in that place. My dad also went to school there. I do remember freezing in class in the winters in that building though. They also mentioned that it would take upwards of $14 million to keep the building rather than tear it down. While the idea of keeping it as is would be the ideal, I just do not see how the small community of Forks could afford such an expensive project, even with the project mentioned here. I guess we hope for the best and cross our fingers.

hmmm...I really am surprised by how many people seem to really be against this. I'm another one of those blog lurkers, who read, and don't comment. However, I was moved by how ridiculous some of these point people raise are against this project. As previously stated, by many people, this is simply an effort to help other people. Education is the simplest way to achieve a better life, for oneself and those around you. If these kids have no high school in town, they will have to go to one in Port Angeles or elsewhere in the area. Which would proceed to make life more complicated for the families trying to get their kids from place to place and such. Teachers in the area would lose their jobs too. The loss of the school would effect the town. in a negative way.
If helping out in Africa is more worthy to you, all the power to you. Doing anything is amazing and inspiring. Good luck with donating to the Gates Foundation, or missions, if that is what appeals to you. More people aided the better, eh? I think this is a great idea admins :) thanks for all your work!

Everyone is making it sound like anyone who posted a negative comment is just mean. That’s not true. People are just expressing their opinions. If you like this idea, great; if not, also fine. This conversation is starting to get personal.

I wasn’t mad before, but now I am a little. Everyone is making it sound like anyone who posted a negative comment is just whiny. That’s not true. People are just expressing their opinions. If you like this idea, great; if not, also fine. This conversation is really starting to get personal.
