Twilighters for Forks

In honor of Bella’s birthday coming up, it’s time for us to reveal a gift we have been working on for a few months now.  It is with great pleasure and excitement that we can announce the formation of Twilighters For Forks, a non-profit organization set up to help benefit the city of Forks, specifically The Forks High School.

While visiting Forks for the first time this last summer, Pel and I both commented on how the words “small town” just didn’t do the city justice.  Being from relatively big cities, we enjoyed how peaceful and quiet the area was, but we were concerned with the economy of the area.  As we took pictures of the landscape and various “Twilight” locations we both thought that if there was any way to help the small town of Forks that we wanted in on it.  We started brainstorming what could be done and wondered if the city had a means to take monetary donations over the internet.  We thought that if we could place a link on the Lexicon, we’d be able to reach thousands of Twilight fans.

Later that day, we were talking to the amazing ladies who run Infinite Jewlery Co., which manufactures Bella’s Bracelet™ and Bella’s Engagement Ring™, who were also visiting Forks.  They informed us that the Forks High School had been condemned and was in danger of being knocked down.  They expressed their desire to do something to help the city, and we said that we had the same desire.  We all knew that if the fans understood what was happening in Forks they would want to help out, too.  Through the affiliations that Infinite Jewlery Co. had made in the city and with the backing of the Lexicon, we went to various city officials asking them for a way for fans to donate to the city.  Thus, Twilighters For Forks was formed!

Now is a chance for all of us who have escaped to Forks so many times while reading these books to give something back to show our gratitude.  Just think of what a small donation from each fan could do for the city of Forks.  Give what you can!  Visit the Forks Forum website for all the details on the school and the purpose of Twilighters for Forks and the chance to help donate to this very valuable cause.

If you want to pass on the word on your own message boards or websites, please feel free to copy this post or just link to the TFF main page at the Forks Forum.  The more people spreading the word, the more good we can do to help Forks and to save the High School!

  1. bellas birthday is saturday! and good idea guys!

    ~~  Yup!  I caught that!  It’s been a looooooong day!

  2. proud_twihard says:

    i don’t particullarly care about Forks. There are other places that need help a lot worse.

  3. Twifanatic Amanda says:

    I want to help!

  4. I can’t get the links to work…

  5. Oh they are going to have a HUGE boost in profits after this weekend. For sure! I’ll be on my way in just 13 hours!!!

  6. The link will not work,but I would
    love to help…

  7. No offense or anything, but if some fandom started messing with my comparably small town, I’d actually be pretty pissed off. If people need help, they ask for it, or they don’t–but there’s no call to dump help on people unsolicited. I also agree with Proud Twihard. There are LOTS of places that need help more that are ASKING for help that deserve help more than Forks. I think that we should mind our own business.

    ~~  None of this is done without the approval of Forks.  In fact, they are the ones who set up TFF.  We simply asked if there was already something in place given our concern for the high school and the city.  This is the the result of that inquiry.  Any fan who has visited Forks can back us up in saying that the area does need help.  Given the masses that already travel to Forks, the city does benefit from the tourists, but not in the capacity that they really need.  For example, did you even know that Forks only has ONE chain restaraunt?  ONE.  And it’s a Subway shop located inside the gas station.  No McDonalds.  No Wal-mart.  No Stabucks.  It is a VERY small town and Poot Angeles, which is an hour away with virtually nothing but tress in between, isn’t what I consider a big town either.  Yes, there are other places you can donate to that need assistance, but given that this is a Twilight related site, we felt that we could support a Twilight themed project.  We found the city delightful and just wanted to help make it that much more comfortable for it’s locals.

  8. I would love to help!

    As others have said, the links don’t seem to be working.

  9. my birthday is the before bella’s!

  10. I think this is a great idea! I will link to the forum on my Twilight blog.

  11. "For example, did you even know that Forks only has ONE chain restaraunt? ONE"

    I am confused-is this a good thing or a bad thing from your perspective? Public schools definitely need the help so if it is done with the approval of the city/school board etc. I think it is a very good idea.

    ~~~ I wasn’t saying it was a good or bad thing, just using it as an example of how small the city is.  I’ve found that the majority of people, myself included, who assume they come from a small town have no idea just how small a town can be.  There is one stop light in Forks.  If memory serves me correctly, there are four restaurants, the Subway being one of them.  There is one grocery store (The Outfiiters) and it is connected to the one main central store.  There are a few specialty shops along main street as well.  Those of us with the convenience of having multiple choices for shopping and dinning and entertainment are highly spoiled compared to what Forks has to offer.  That being said, I don’t believe I have ever visited a more peaceful place in my life.  If ever I really needed to "get away from it all" in the true sense of the phrase, Forks would be the place to go.
  12. Aww, that’s a sweet idea. Though there are probably quite a few Forks High kids who would love to have their school torn down and are probably booing and hissing at the idea XD
  13. I think this is a wonderful idea! Preserving a historic building is always a worthwhile cause, and preserving a historic building that has literary significance is doubly worthwhile, in my opinion.
  14. I think its a great idea!
  15. This was thoughtful of your group to think of.
    Use the first link they mention… http://www.forksforum.com/twilighters
    At bottom is a donate button… this one does work.
  16. valentine_81 says:
    What a great idea!
    As a person who wants to move up there someday, this makes me really happy.
    Of course there are always more causes, more places in trouble that need help, but anyone who would donate some hard earned money to help out a tiny town gets a BIG pat on the back from me!!
  17. What a great idea! If we all donate a little, it will help a lot!
  18. What a brilliant idea! I’d be more then happy to help donate to save Forks High School :)
  19. Oh dear God! Some people just love to argue ABOUT ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING.
    I think it’s a great idea. If you want to help another cause help another cause. Who are you to argue one cause is less important or less deserving than another?
    And by the way the second link doesn’t work.
  20. This is a fantastic idea… we are saving a high school… and we are helping a town. Thisis what should be done… not only for a town in which has been made famous but for other towns that are falling apart. BUt we can only work on one town at a time. haha…
    LETS SAVE THAT HIGH SCHOOL!!!
  21. I think it is a wonderful idea, Forks reminds me of my town. I would love to help. I read up on the town and saw how it was devistated when the logging businesses were shut down up there. These books have been great for the town.
  22. I love this idea. I just made my donation and I think everyone should try to give, even if it’s just a few dollars. Is there anyway the Lexicon can keep us updated on how much has been contributed?
  23. I think this is a great idea and I will definitely be sending a check out.
  24. Chapter Thirteen says:
    I think this is great. The town of Forks has been a great sport when it comes to Twilight fans. They offer Twilight tours of the town and have special events such as the one coming up this Saturday; in honor of Bella’s Birthday, Forks is hosting Stephenie Meyer Day which will include tours, contests, readings, and much more. I think it’s great that fans now have a way to give back to Forks, a town that has supported and encouraged the imagination and spirit of Twilight and its fandom.
  25. I donated some too, not much since I can’t afford it right now but I think if everyone donated some, it would end up being a lot.
    And I would also love to know the progress of the donations. Can you keep track or is it the Peninsula Betterment Assc. that can keep track?
  26. Great Idea! I will be sending my donation.
  27. i want to help!
    but shouldn’t we focs sending money to the public schools?
    cause they suck bad..
  28. The pictures in the website looks so sweet. I am down south in ATL but would love to visit the town someday.
  29. Team Twilight (formerly known as *Twilighter*) says:
    I don’t think that Forks High School should be torn down as much as the next person and I feel really bad for the people who went or go to that school, however I don’t nessicarily think that it’s that big of a cause. I bet you that if Forks High wasn’t in the books nobody would know or care that the school was being torn down. I respect everyone opinions here because everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I’m not hating. I’m just not that moved by this story. If you are, that’s fine. And I really hope that these people help the school and that the school doesn’t get torn down. Just because I don’t agree with this, doesn’t mean I want to see Forks High go down into peices. I’m not black- hearted you know :)
  30. I don’t envy the admins of this site. In almost everything you do there is a counter argument. Even for a fundraiser.Boggles my mind. Thanks for all your efforts :-)
  31. Mary Alice Cullen says:
    I’d love to giva yah money but i’m broke. I got a pagent coming up and i spended all my money on my beautiful dress.
    sorry =]
  32. I think this is really nice. To all the people who disagree, is it really that important to argue against it? The people who want to can donate, and the people who don’t don’t have to. As for me, I think every good cause will help the world somehow, even if it’s just a little bit. So it doesn’t matter in the long run which causes a person contributes to – someday the world will be a better place because of it regardless. Sorry if that didn’t make any sense, this is my opinion and my mind is generally a confusing place to be. :/
  33. i’m so donating! this is one place that means a lot to me, and i won’t let it go down. its just not possible.
  34. Rachel: you make perfect sense hun :-)
  35. I had such a wonderful time visitng Forks this past summer and I want to help out. *Heading over to the links as soon as I post my support.*
    Forks is a beautiful and peaceful town, and it made me giddy with delight to see how the locals are embracing the Twilight world in their town. They even honked their horns at my friends and I while we posed in front of the “Welcome to Forks” Sign for pictures.
    I had the opportunity to sit and visit with members of the community and listened to them describe how the town has changed since Stephenie Meyer put them on the map as a place to imagine vampires and not just as a beautiful recreation vacation stop. We spoke with a school teacher who gave us a more personal reaction to reading Twilight as she imagined her own classroom as a setting in the book.
    While attending a local church meeting, one of the members introduced himself as Dr. Cullen and had a good laugh at my reaction after having to explain to me that he really was a doctor. Isn’t that cute that he’s helping to make my Twilight experience more real?
    I’d love to see the little town suceed financially to handle the ways and means of supporting a huge influx of tourism because of my favorite book.
  36. Is there anywhere to see a counter of how much money has been donated so far? I think that would be good to add, I didn’t see one when I glanced over the link.
  37. This is so cool. I’m gonna give my support as soon as I’m done with this post. I’m all for the preservation of buildings and a important building in one of my favorite books that also is there in real life gets my full support!
  38. First of all, you guys are amazing. You are always thinking of ways to give back. You are my heroes!
    My hometown had a similar campaign to save an old library. They got some donations, but when funds started to taper off, they started selling walkway bricks with people’s names on them. So, for $100 you could buy a paver, and they would put your name on it, so that your name was permanently part of the project. An old city hall did something similar, but you actually got to make the tile with paints, then they laid them, and covered them with some sort of sealer. When we go home, we still go to look at “our tile”. The city’s plan for this building might not be able to accommodate this, but I have seen it be successful two different times.
  39. Team Twilight (formerly known as *Twilighter*) says:
    Hey people!! I was reading comments on another site and today is RENESMEE’s birthday!!! Okay so I made up a birthday jingle for her.. ahem *clears throat*:
    “Happy Birthday to you. You’re a vampire whoo- hoo! Why did you’re mom marry Edward?!? I wanted him too!” :) HAPPY BIRTHDAY RENESMEE!!!!
  40. …To the people complaining about this idea…
    First of please do not take something as positive as this and hash out on it. You don’t HAVE to donate or comment or even be part of it. Read it disagree and go on about your day but try to refrain from downing these people for wanting to help a struggling community.
    Second, there are a lot of other places that could use help but instead of getting on here and griping about it…do somethig about it. Start your own site or blog of whatever to benefit any area you feel is worthy and in need.
    To the Lexicon – I think this is a brilliant idea and very thoughtful. I have a saying “it is not the depth of your thougths but the depth of your actions that count” (read that downer girls) I come from a small community much like Forks that only got it’s first chain restaurant two years ago and that was also in a gas station. I live in a larger city now but communities like this are in more need than the rest of our nation realizes. It takes energetic individuals to create positive change. I know people will continue to complain because Forks wouldn’t be on the map if it weren’t for the books, but then again maybe that is fate’s way of bringing this struggling community into the public eye. Brava! I applaud you.
  41. Ahhh, that’s hilarious, Team Twilight. So, who’s singing that: the fandom or Tanya?
  42. I would love to help out Forks! I had no clue their town was suffering so much. I do have a suggestion, though. Could you make/sell t-shirts (like through CafePress) and give the profits to TFF? I think many people would be more willing to give if they feel like they are getting something in return (including me). I’d be willing to help if you need an extra hand!
    ~~~ That was a consideration, but believe it or not, we don’t make a lot of money off of cafe press.  Our mark up is only a dollar or two for the larger items and sometimes 50 cents for smaller items.  So fans would be spending $20 and Forks would only get about $2 of that.  Personally, I’d rather you just gave Forks $2 and called it even.  But of course, if you could afford the $20, that would be even better.

  43. Bloody brilliant.

  44. CreamAndRoses says:

    Awwwww, what a nice idea! I want to help!

  45. I was in Forks with Infinte Jewlery and Alphie, Pel and Dano. I agree it was beautiful. The townsfolk were so nice and helpful. They really try to make your trip amazing. Thank you Forks for a wonderful vacation. Wish I could have spent more than a week there, but don’t worry, I’ll be back!
    And I’m sending you some money too! Long live Forks High!

  46. There are places in much more need then Forks.

    The only reason you want to help is because they are featured in Twilight, if they weren’t there you wouldn’t bother, you wouldn’t even give a damn.

    (I apologise for the language)

    But think of Africa, people dying every few minutes but you decide to spend your money on Forks, I mean, it’s a nice idea but their are people worse off.

    Well I wish you luck with it.

  47. proud_twihard says:

    I don’t want to offend anyone by saying this, but the fact that some people aren’t touched by this story doesn’t mean they’re negative or make an argument out of everything or whatever. I know that my opinion doesn’t mater, and posting it is a waste of time, but I want to do it anyway. I post on lots of stuff I don’t really care about, not just to be negative.

  48. proud_twihard says:

    I agree w/ Caty. Also, I hope my previous comment made sense.

  49. “The only reason you want to help is because they are featured in Twilight, if they weren’t there you wouldn’t bother, you wouldn’t even give a damn.”

    And the stating the obvious award goes to: Caty :-) Of course we wouldn’t know about Forks and “moonunit” stated everything I wanted to say.

  50. To all of the naysayers:

    Yes, I agree, there are probably more “worthy” causes out there. Many third-world countries, like Africa, could use our assistance. But, let’s just say we all come together and make a difference in a small town like Forks. This would show everyone that we can make a change for the better.

    After this project, I think it would be a terrific idea to tackle something on a larger scale. We could create a project to help out those who truly have nothing. I think that this kind of community could be a great forum for worldwide change. :)
