I'm a bit disappointed with Meyer in that she's said that her fans mean everything to her, and yet she is letting her down by letting one unscrupulous person ruin it for everybody. Authors need to be able to face this head-on, because, whether she likes it or not, not everyone is going to worship and stay loyal to her. She can't let a bruised ego from one person's betrayal stop her from finishing MS. I think she should take a short break, come to terms with it, and continue writing.

To be honest, I stumbled upon the unpublished manuscript last Monday, 23 August, on a site whose membership was by invitation only (which means not just anyone can download off the site). The source said that she got it off another site and she's not sure if it's authentic or real.

I downloaded it out of curiosity (yes, it's in human nature to be curious) and read it under the assumption that it wasn't the real manuscript (and therefore, to me, it was just fan fiction that was enough to get me by).

But I also thought "What if the manuscript is real?" And so out of respect to Ms. Meyer, therefore, I vowed never to repost the link of my source(so that others won't be able to download it). I also vowed that I will buy the book once it comes (even reserve a copy prior to the release date and line up at midnight to get it).

It was only yesterday, when Ms. Meyer addressed the issue, that I confirmed that the manuscript I got was authentic.

Ahhh, that was one instance in my life where morality and ethics came out to play.

Do I feel that I contributed to this fiasco? No, simply because I did not leak the manuscript and if I did not stumble upon the link, this issue would still explode because there were other fans who downloaded it as well out of curiosity, out of weakness, out of temptation. Had I not stumbled upon the link earlier, I would still have read the partial draft in Ms. Meyer's site because I'm just like that. I don't mind getting spoiled. I'm the type who reads the end of the book first. So by reading the draft, it doesn't make me less of a true fan (unlike some fans think but hey, I respect your opinion. No bashing there, please).

Do I feel bad that I downloaded the manuscript and read it before Ms. Meyer posted the draft on her website? No, because honestly, it was beautiful- typographical errors, grammar glitches and all. Just like Alyssa, it made me look forward to the book even more. Just by reading Chapter 1 before, it made me even want this book to come out before Breaking Dawn!

Do I feel bad for Ms. Meyer? Yes, of course. My heart goes out to there. And I do hope that the love and support of her fans (and her love for Edward) inspire her to continue writing Midnight Sun.

Oh, and just my two cents about who leaked the draft. I don't think it was anyone she gave the draft to. Most likely, someone found that particular draft lying around somewhere and scanned them. It was a careless mistake made by the person Ms. Meyer gave that particular draft to to leave it lying around. I'm guessing the person who scanned it thought he/she was doing the fandom a favor by spoiling Midnight Sun but it backlashed and now he/she is stewing in his/her guilt. Fine, that person's identity is anonymous now but I bet her conscience won't let her rest.

I know this is quite long but I've been silently lurking and I just felt I had to share my story, given the risks. Thank you to all those who read this!

This is just so, so upsetting. I feel so very sad at this moment that I feel like crying-well I actually am. I really wanted Midnight Sun next to my other Twilight books. I don't care if the first 12 chapters are up I'll still buy the book happily. I hope Stephenie is ok and hopefully she will decide to finish MS. I didn't read it illegaly-not worth it, until she posted it on her website-and I thought wow even though we know what happens it seems like a totally different story book-at that time I wish that she would write all books from Edward's pov because it awesome thru his eyes.

I heard about this leak a few days ago, but refused to even consider looking for it. Whoever did this has no respect for Stephenie Meyer or the Twilight Saga, and underestimates the online fandom's integrity.

We who do love Stephenie need to show our support, show that we still want her to write. In her site, the intro to Midnight Sun said she wanted to see a pretty bound Midnight Sun on her desk next to Twilight. I don't know about you guys, but I want that, too. I want to be able to pull it out at any time and drink in Edward's words. All that has happened is horrible, but I hope that Stephenie is still willing to let us in her head.

Had an early leak occurred with Breaking Dawn, I wonder if she would have pulled that project, too?

I hold out hope that Midnight Sun will be published someday. It just might be a while to get over this. I will eagerly buy it then, too, as well as anything you put out in the future.

From a fellow writer who completely understands the fear of plagiarism/leaks (though fortunately it's not happened to me, yet) you have my sincere condolences.

And thank you for giving us at least some of Midnight Sun. I greatly enjoyed it, even in its imperfection.

Again, my deepest sympathies.

A tip for the comments here though: Don't feed the trolls. (Hint: Heathus = troll) Ignore them and they go away.
