Let’s Talk Numbers

3 Weeks After Breaking Dawn Made Its Debut

Amazon.com, Breaking Dawn remaining the most ordered book. The list changes hour by hour, but number one is where it seems to be staying. The other books in the saga are in the top 20.

Barnes and Noble it is in the number 4 slot with the other books in the saga in the top 10.

USA TODAY
Breaking Dawn is number one and the rest of the saga is within the top 10. The Host punches in at number 20.

Wall Street Journal
Breaking Dawn is number one and the rest of the saga is within the top 10. The Host is at number 10.

The New York Times
Breaking Dawn and the rest of the Saga is at one ( the NY Times list categorizes the books as "series books" in their children’s list). The Host is at number 6 on it’s list (categorized as hardcover fiction).

Now if you consider the fact that most die hard fans get their books within the first week, the fact that the book is still doing this well three weeks later after a set release date, is pretty impressive.

Comments

  1. I just finished BD again (4th time through), and I love it more each time. No wonder it’s still riding high! ;)

  2. I never thought about the whole die hard fan thing. Yeah. Crazy. It’s still going.
    :)

  3. Addicted says:

“Let’s Talk Numbers”- VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!! Yes, it’s sometimes good to let the numbers/sales speak for themselves!!!!

  4. Valerie says:

I too liked it better the with the 2nd read. I’ve only read it twice, so far. I’m so glad it is continuing to do well. Stephenie Meyer, rocks!

  5. shannon_love says:

the book is phenomenal. of course its still on top!!!!!!!
i’ve read it about four times as well haha, i still adore it. it still makes me cry, and laugh hysterically. am i the only one who thought this one was just HYSTERICAL? i loved that.

  6. felix says:

I don’t particularly BD but I am pleased that it is doing well. Looking forward to Midnight Sun.

  7. Lynn says:

Of course its number one- Stephenie Meyer ROCKS!

  8. hayli says:

ah what can i say, im not surprised! it’s a fabulous book :)

  9. Isabel says:

    Of course! BD was great!!!!

  10. pinky says:

The fact that all of her books are up in the 10′s and 20 markers at one time, tells you that it’s not just a fluke of good luck….she knows how to write a good book that draws you in and takes you on a grand ride!!!!! :) I am not a person who likes to reread books over and over, but these are the first books to do that to me and I keep taking that grand ride over and over again…I hope all of her books to come do the same!

  11. Sonya says:

I’m not surprised. There has been so much hype. Stephenie Meyer is getting so much attention and people want to know why. Yay!

  12. Tanit says:

    OF COURSE! :D

  13. TwilightFan says:

I LOVED BREAKING DAWN AND I’M READING IT AGAIN ! AND I’M SO HAPPY FOR HER BECAUSE SHE IS SO GREAT TO HER FANS AND ALL HER FANS SHOULD HAVE SOME APPRECIATION FOR HER BECAUSE SHE’S AWESOME REALLY SHE’S JUST DOWN TO EARTH !

    TEAM STEPHENIE !!!!

  14. Victoria says:

Yeay for Stephenie!!!! Breaking Dawn is awsome!!!

  15. Twifanatic Amanda says:

    Woohoo that’s so awesome

  16. Jamie H. says:

So glad to see that the books are still #1 and in top 10 (or 20). But would we expect anything less? We all KNOW how great these books are!! And it’s true, everytime you reread them, they get better and better! I think everyone needs to read BD more than once. I love that book!!

  17. Emily says:

sweet :D yay for Breaking Dawn!

  18. Melissa says:

I loved BD. I’m on my 2nd reading and I find myself catching things I missed on the 1st read.
I absolutely loved Jacobs POV, he is hysterical and gave me a whole new appreciation for him!

  19. Minh Thu says:

I just love BD! Of course SMeyer is in the Top 10 (or 20)!!!

  20. Chelsea says:

Amen to that Jamie! I’ve reread all of the books at least twice and they never get old. It fills me with so much joy to see that so many people are bringing these stories into their lives. I’m pretty sure the love for these books will never die…*pun intended*.

  21. jazjade says:

Your comment about how the die-hard fans already had the book in the first 24 hours and three weeks later it is still number 1 on many bestseller lists was something that just “dawned” on me a week or so ago … I guess this means lots of new fans for Bella and Edward. Also, that folks are not scared away from BD just because a few have said radical things about it in the press. For me, Breaking Dawn was an incredible personal experience.

  22. i love edward cullen says:

Well duh!!! These books are so incredibly amazing, it is easy to believe that they are STILL on the top 10 or 20 list. I’ve already read Breaking Dawn like 5 times, and my mom keeps asking me why. I just tell her that they are amazing,(not to mention i want to spend time with Edward) All us fans KNOW that the Twilight saga is incredible!! :-)

  23. Naomi says:

I loved Breaking Dawn! So happy it is still number 1 in so many places. All the bad press about the books is a shame. Stephenie brought us a wonderful world full of hot vampires and loyal friends. I will be forever a fan. Stephenie Meyer, if you see this, I am your BIGGEST FAN!

*By the way, I’ve only read BD once. I want to reread the entire series at once! I also agree with Jamie H: everytime you read the books, they get better and better!

  24. stina says:

yeah – when I bought my book on 4th august in UK, it was the last one on the shelf! I needed to ask one of the SAs if they still had few left and when I started saying “stephenie Me..” she said that yes, I think I know what you mean :D follow me, we might still have one.
I was so close to kiss her when she handed me the last copy.
I can imagine how I must have looked like when I danced this victory dance while heading to the till.. ;D and my friends laughed at me..

  25. Ashley says:

I love this book & the criticism made me sad for stepheneie…but I have gotten at least 3 new people addicited to the series with this last book! I love it! I have read BD 2 times already & I know I will reread it again being I read the other books 3 times & listened to them on CD once already! Steph is amazing & the story of Edward & Bella is so amazing! Since I am currently pregnant I had a huge connection w/ BD!!!

  26. Kat says:

OF course they are still on top!! I am on my 7th turn on re reading the series and I’m DYING to finish Eclipse again because I soooo badly want to re read Breaking Dawn again!! I loved it the first time that I read it, co I know I’m gonna double love it the 2nd time!!

  27. i love edward cullen says:

OF COURSE!!! I went to the midnight opening @ Borders on August 2nd, in the U.S. Before I even bought it I read the first chapter and was nup until 6:00 in the MORNING reading it, as were 6 of my friends with whom, I had a party. Breaking Dawn rules!! The clerk looked at me like I was crazy though when I was debating with my friend Caroline over Edward’s perfection.

  28. Neusa says:

I am not suprisedd this books are amazing.. I am reading Breaking for the 3rd time.. but the book i read the most would be Twilight and Eclipse.. I still can’t get over the fact that Edward wasn’t in New for almost the whole book:).. but I read New Moon a lot though too.. but Bd still can’t match how many times I read the other..but so far am doing good..

  29. xKatieXCullenx says:

I think this is awesome. This is the best series I have ever read (duh) and basically everyone I know reads Twilight. Well, they’re pretty much all girls. I was talking about it around one of my guy friends and he’s like, “Who wants to read about vampire romance?” I think the look I gave him was pretty angry Edward-ish if I do say so myself. ;)

  30. TATi says:

    Im sooo glad! =D

  31. RockPaper Scissors says:

I saw a mom reading Twilight in the carpool line last week. I didn’t know her, but I pressed my face against her van window to ask if it was her first time reading it. It was. She was so engrossed she didn’t notice me for 15 minutes. I was only moderately embarrassed – besides, the rain washed away my slober marks.

I agree with the lots of new fans theory. All my girlfriends have FINALLY picked them up. They don’t sleep, they don’t eat, they don’t do laundry and they feed their children leftovers.

I am caught between feeling superior because I’ve already read them and being sad…because I’ve already read them.

  32. Kathryn says:

ditto to basically everything ya’ll have just said. I’m not surprised in the least that it is doing fanominally on the charts as well.

  33. Ystasia says:

Yes, yes, yes!!! i agree with ALL of you guys here. I’m sharing my books with my mom right now, so i have to wiat until she finishes reading BD!!! Ahhhhh!!! I wanna scream, it’s so hard to wait for her (she’s a REALLY slow reader). Well anywhoo. . . I am deffinately big time obsessed with the books. I got four people obsessed with the series last year.

A girl sent me and email yesterday and was flipping out about “how I shouldn’t be obsessed with a book and I was such an idiot for it”. I just said, “hahaha!!! Like I care about that!”

  34. Joanne Maria says:

I am so happy for STEPH-
    So Haters….blah…blah…blah…

  35. I’m so glad, Stephenie deserves all of this success, her body of work is phenomenal. I’m sad that it’s the end of Bella’s story, but I’m excited to see what she’ll come up with next.
I am hoping that along with midnight sun there is more in store for The Host (Another one that gets better and better the more you read it).
I love Stephenie’s style of writing it drags you in and involves you in the lives of the characters, it’s easy to lose yourself because you end up caring for her characters.
I am hoping that we hear something soon . . . but I also hope she enjoys her time off.

  36. S_M_G says:

Yay for Stephenie! The “fan” backlash made me so angry. Haters sure have a lot more to say than the lovers but the numbers speaks volumes for the lovers.

The people who returned the book thinking it would make an effect are sorely mistaken.

I love the whole series and BD is simply amazing. I read it only twice yet but I’m on New Moon for the 5th time now and can’t wait to read Eclipse and BD again :-)

  37. cabingurl says:

Yea for Stephenie! I was very angry when I heard that people were talking about returning the book. That had to be very daunting for Stephenie. I am just glad that the numbers can speak for themselves! I really loved Breaking Dawn, and I am happy to see it is still going strong in sales.

  38. muse7 says:

    WTG, Stephenie!!

  39. Anna says:

    OMG
    BD IS AMAZING
i am on my tenth time reading it, and it is just as good every time
i have read each of the other three 16 times each
AND THEY ARE STILL INCREDIBLE EVERY TIME

  40. Kizmet says:

my friend from camp has still 4 summer reading books to read because i got her hooked on twilight. :)

  41. Belloo says:

    Go Breaking Dawn!!!!

P.S. Did anyone watch harry potter 4 last night on abc family? If you did answer me this…
Did you FREAK out every time you saw Rob? I did!

  42. Team Twilight (formerly known as Twilighter) says:

I went on imdb and it said that the release date for the Twilight movie in the Philippines is January 8 2009. I thought it was November 20. I’m not from the Philippines but I just wanted to know which date is right.

  43. Lydia says:

I will never get over BD. I’m reading it for like the fifth time right now!! It’s soooo amazing!!!

  44. LizzT says:

I thought the New York Times lists and others compared the total amount of books sold. For example, if Week 1 BD sold 20 copies and beat everyone else, it was #1. If the next week it sold no copies, but still had a record-high, it would still be #1. I guess I was wrong?

  45. LizzT says:

It was a nice book, but I’m not reading BD again. I gave it away.

  46. Tamalyn says:

This makes me soooooo happy, especially considering all of the fire that Steph has come under from all sides since the release of BD. Like you pointed out, most of the die-hard fans already have their copy. So, maybe it’s true what they say – that no publiciry is bad publicity! I would love to think that something as positive as new readers have come about because of all the criticism.

  47. ianscousin says:

    Yay for Breaking Dawn!!!

  48. Brianne says:

    Yay for Stephenie!!!

  49. Moe Moe says:

I’m so happy that the numbers actually show what the real fans are doing. You dont have to love the book *I totally loved it* but the backlash that some people had was RIDICULOUS like returning the book or sending letters to SMEYER. Its HER story, her world, and you have to accept that. I’m sooo glad its doing well!!!!!

    I <3 NESSIE!!!!!!

  50. i love edward cullen says:

Yay for BD. Lydia I’m with you there, I will never get over BDF. It is too amazing!! :-)
