Forum Status

We were able to put a significant amount of work into them this weekend and they are coming along, but they probably won’t be ready for actual posting until later this week. We don’t want to promise an exact day,then hit a snag, and then have to renege.
Here is what we know for certain so far:
- If you want to participate in the forums, you will need to re-register(the blog is not affected). Please use your old forum name, or go for something entirely new. Be nice don’t snag someone else’s name. As a suggestion (if you are looking for a new name) but by no means a requirement, pick something non-Twilight related. People remember who you are more if it’s a non-twilight related name. Roughly 800 of you have found the forum already and done that.
- We were able to save in archive form what the forum looked like when we backed it up on August, 5, 2008 just prior to re-opening. We will be loading that and providing a link to it. We were unable to import the old forum into the new one. It was just too old and too broken. A lot of haphazard modifications had been done to it over the years, and it was just a mess. It seemed a lot more prudent to start again than to constantly be struggling with something broken to begin with.
- What happened to the items posted between August 6 and August 8? There was no clean backup available. By the time was got the server company on the phone we were too late to salvage the Thursday night (non-hacked) database. The only clean copy they had was exactly what we had the Friday night hacked version which amounted to only about 10% of the original forum structure. So, just as was the case with the blog, we lost about 4 days worth of stuff.
- We are in the process of copying over the most popular threads and starting new ones. By "copying" we mean highlighting, cutting, and pasting the most recent post or the post that explains the purpose of the thread and starting the thread from scratch. This takes awhile. We will have our usual topic request thread because no doubt we will have missed something, and we will be happy to put whatever back.
- We will have Breaking Dawn discussion available in all forums. Origianlly we had thought about segregating Breaking Dawn discussion into one forum until September. However given the vast post Breaking Dawn publicity, you would have to have been sleeping under a rock not to have stumbled on the major plot points. So, it seems silly not to have Breaking Dawn discussion in all forums.

I can’t register! Help! When I click “Register” I get nothing. When I click “log in” my old info defaults in but wont’ let me log in. I’m not going to say this is my brand of heroin, but I need my Twilight Lexicon fix!!!

Those hackers were idiots. And the emails they sent, how pathetic. don’t people have anything better to do?
what is up with registering on the forums?
I can log in the main page with my username and password from before and all but once i got to the forums it doesn’t work. i get that we have to re-register and all but. . .um where exactly do we register? I’ve tried registering at the Twilight Lexicon Discussion Forums and it won’t let me :/

Did you try registering on the main news page? I re-registered on the main page. You get an email with a funny password, but you can change it on your profile page. It shows me as logged in, so I’m assuming I registered right even though I can’t log into the forums either; I think that the mods have to allow us to access the forums.

Hi there, since the boards aren’t up yet I just wanted somewhere to say how sorry I am about what someone has done to your site and to give you my undying thank you for bringing it back to life. I know you are aware of how much this site is loved by the vast majority of its members but I just wanted to add in my two cents worth ( I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!). I check the lexicon every single day and although i haven’t yet got up the courage to actually post on the forums, i have read through alot of them. Thank you the entire Lexicon team for all your hard work in keeping this community alive, I can’t believe that someone would be heartless enough to try to ruin this for every one and I know how disheartening it must have been to find yourselves vandalized but just know that I greatly appreciate everything you have done, you are the best and sorry for writing such a long post:P!!!

Tashalla, I so agree. The Lexicon MODS are doing such s great job and I can try as much as I want, I cannot understand why anyone would want to ruin all of this. All of the MODS’ work, all our pleasures…just because you don’t like a book. It shocked me so much when I heard of this. Just goes to show that the Twilight Series are so much more than just a couple of books, for those who love it and for those who hate it. It’s our world =) And you, Alphie, Pel, Seraphyn, Cocoa, all of you are a great part of it.
Anyway. **** poor people who have no other goal in life than spend their free-time destroying something as great and at the same time innocent as our Lex. Thanks for putting it back together again, we understand it’s difficult.

It’s awesome that you guys were able to get back up and running. You are one of my favorite Twilight sites, so I’m happy to have you back! Quick question (not really pertaining to the forums though): Will you be updating the character bios and stuff with Breaking Dawn characters and info?
I have a question. Are all the archives deleted because of the hackers? so we wont be able to read anymore of what happened before august? or are you recovering them in some way?
I just tried to register and this message came up: “We are currently working to put the board back together. We hope to have an announcemnt by Sunday night as to when we reopen.” You said earlier that we could register now? I was just wondering if this problem applies to just my computer if it was a general problem.
