“What Book Got You Hooked?”– a book lovers’ campaign from First Book that will bring thousands of new books to kids in need.
Now through September 15, readers everywhere are invited to share the first book that made reading fun for them and then help get more kids hooked by voting for the state to receive 50,000 new books for low-income youth.
This is a great organization stop by and let them know what book got you hooked on reading.
**Please be sure to stop by the First Book site and tell them the book that got you hooked on reading.

Hey, for anyone who feels “old” that they didn’t find anything else before this….
I was born in 1977 (gasp!) so I must feel like Aro to most of you, LMAO. I have read hundreds of books (except the Harry Potter series) and am about to get my Ph.D. in Biochemistry (so I read more than anyone’s share in life).
Twilight got me back to reading. It reminded me how fucking amazing reading a book felt like! I will forever be grateful to Stephenie for sharing her universe with me.
It’s a very personal experience for me. I don’t care if people didn’t like Breaking Dawn. Stephenie got me back to reading “fiction” after dealing with real science and questioning everything single thing for so long!
Twilight Saga will be the first book I’ll introduce my daughter to when she turns 13.
Ooops! I thought “f***ing” would be blurred. Oh well, sorry
)
I had to put White Fang, because that was the first book I ever read and enjoyed. And I was 7, so Twilight was deffinitely not out yet.
I never really got hooked on Harry Potter (didn’t even read them till after book 6 came out). And Twilight got me more hooked on reading than I ever was before.
So, while White Fang was the first, Twilight was the awesomest.
…And BD is my new favorite book (that’s right. I went there)
Did u know that before i read TWILIGHT, i didnt lik to read books!!!!
I used to read picture books….hehehehehe
but since i hav read twilight (& the rest of the series), i hav been readin’ every book i think is good!
Guess wat,the book that me hooked was Twilight!!
even my parents got fed up with me after i started reading twilight!!!!!!!!
& u know wat, it is the best fiction book ever!!!
Thanks Steph.
I would love to say Twilight, too. My daughter got me into the Twilight books only about 3 months ago, though I do admit to reading the first 3 in 72 hours, and I breezed through Breaking Dawn in less than a day. But I got hooked on reading when I was about 7 or 8. Quite a few years ago. My first favorite was “From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.”
(P.S. I was just at the site to vote, and there seems to be a problem at the moment. Hopefully they’ll have it fixed soon.)
I would pick Twilight, but I was a reader way before I read Twilight
I’m not saying Twilight… I read books WAY before then… Twilight isn’t the BEST series out there, and I wouldn’t recommend it to CHILDREN. It’s a GREAT series…but I don’t want my 11 year old sister reading this book series JUST yet… she wouldn’t be able to appreciate it…
I will say that I LOVED the Black Stallion Series ^^; I also loved books like Bunicula, Harriet the Spy, Pippie Longstocking, Doctor Doolittle, Hank the Cowdog, for kids’ books. These were fun and I loved them…
OH and Graphic Novels were always fun for me to read too >_>
Unfortunately, I can’t say Twilight either. I’ve been reading since I was like four. I’d have to say Magic Schoolbus or the Magic Treehouse books…
Harry Potter was my first love and it always will be. Yes, i love Twilight too. But Harry Potter got me reading whicch led me to Twilight so yeah, HP got my vote
The first books that really got me hooked on reading were The Boxcar Children and The Babysitters Club. I was 6 maybe 7 and my parents couldn’t get me to stop reading to come down for dinner. Also every book by Roald Dahl. Then of course Harry Potter was born. There are so many great books out there. I am not sure I can pinpoint the exact book that got me hooked. I have just always loved to read.
Twilight is my favorite though.
I HATED reading. I absolutly loathed it. But when TWILIGHT came along everything changed. So for me it was twilight all the way!!!!
I so wished I could say Twilight, I REALLY did.. But I had to put The Velveteen Rabbit.. I read it when I was 5 and I’ve been hooked since.. ha.. I mean I would’ve put Twilight, but it wasn’t around back then!
If S_M_G is Aro, I must be the original Vlad because I am way pre-1977!
I honestly don’t know exactly what book got me into reading so I just had to pick something.
Twilight is my current obsession. I’ve never joined chats or gone to a midnight pickup for any other book!
I wish that I was one of those people who could say Twilight, but it’s not true. I got hooked on reading WAY before twilight. I got hooked on The Two Princesses of Bamarre.
Twilight is my favorite book though.
To bad Twilight wasn’t written 10 years ago or i would say it was the book. The book that got me hooked on reading was Narnia, but Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn are my life long obsession. They have created a whole new way of reading and thinking for me!
TWILIGHT & THE HOST…. BOTH are sooooo amazingly AWESOME!!!!
I always loved reading too. I’d have to say the Judy Blume books got me hooked. How great was: Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret?
LOL muse7, good to know
Sometimes I really feel like I’m too old to be obsessing about Twilight
I remembered the first books that really got me hooked when I was 10-11. Malory Towers by Enid Blyton! Oh how I wanted to go to that school!
omg! i 4 1 love twilight! thats wat rilly got me hooked! and im ttly bord and know one talks to me on yahoo so if u do want o talk to me write…… to this acually
nvm! THIS IS A TWILIGHT WEBSITE! but i love twilight! thats all that matters!
Twilight!!! I hated reading for so long… I used to read when I was younger then I just stopped… I guess it got boring or sumthing… but then I was in Mr. Loucks CP English class… this book was assigned to a group of us to read to do this big end-of-the-year project. It was the best assigntment I have ever gotten=)
i said TWILIGHT of course, too. i liked to read before i read twilight, but i didn’t LOVE to read until i read twilight. it was weird, because at first i though twilight was a huge book and that i’d never finish it. but i finished it in one night, and now any book under 500 pages is “small”. lol, I LOVE THE TWILIGHT SERIES AND STEPHENIE MEYER!!
I feel so anti-twilight saying this, but they definately weren’t my first books.
Mine were the Henry and Mudge series. They were the longest ones I could read at a measly age 5, and I’ve been reading since.
