I loved the book! I agree that this is a FANsite and all who have negative comments need to visit another site that has your same opinions. Its your right to not like something but don’t ruin it for everyone else.

  2. Melanie says:

Devon061381 I agree with just about everything you’ve said. You can definitely speak for me. The reviews of people who didn’t like Breaking Dawn sound a little personal. A lot of people didn’t like it because what they wanted didn’t happen, and for the people who wanted that ending it just wasn’t ENOUGH. A few characters could’ve died sure (in a fight scene that regretfully didn’t exist) but in the end Stephenie wrote what she knew would happen all along. The ONLY thing that could’ve happened. That fact needs to be accepted because Breaking Dawn’s plot isn’t going to change any time soon.

  3. Toni says:

Entertainment Weekly may have been harsh, but they were honest. Quite frankly, some of the things they DID like…I didn’t. Overall, reading the reviews were pretty cool.

  4. CKitsune says:

The awesome thing about Breaking Dawn is this: There WASN’T a battle scene. Stephenie Meyer answered her reasons for this in a brilliant way. She chose a DIFFERENT path. Everyone EXPECTED a battle, but what we got was a battle of wits…

What occured in the final pages of BD was very real to the character of the Volturi. They are basically chickens who only care about THEIR agenda. They aren’t going to fight unless they are 100 percent sure they can win.

What Meyer did, however was open up for future stories that she may, or may not write… I thought this was awesome…

We also have the thing with Naheul and Jacob… If she ever decides to write from Renesmee’s or Leah’s POV, will Jacob overcome imprinting? Will Renesmee choose another of her kind? All of that lies to be seen, if Meyer should choose to write more from the Cullen’s world.

It’s very interesting in my opinion… I thought BD closed Bella’s story perfectly… now we can look forward to future works from MEyer that DON’T involve Vampires. I’m excited to read about Ghosts and Mermaids myself haha..

  5. Tamalyn says:

Ha ha, YES! Bring on the ghosts and mermaids and time travel, Please! I will always be a meyer fan.

  6. LovelyCullie says:

Honestly, I thought that Leah and Jacob were going to have a thing for a while there. And, was kind of disappointed when they didn’t.

  7. Yippie Skipper says:

    Ya, lovelycullie, right on!
I loved the HOST! and hope that she writes more like that.

  8. Guadalupe says:

Sorry ladies, but I’m kind of siding with Sky on this topic. I was disappointed in BD, but still remain a fan of the previous three. Plus! The Host! And LovelyCullie, I COMPLETELY thought the same thing!!!!

  9. Katherine says:

exactly.. just because we don’t like BD. doesn’t mean we’re not a *true* fan. this debate makes me soo bad.

  10. CKitsune says:

On the contrary. I believe that those who liked BD are just as much “fans” as the rest of us…except different.

The “other” side had a different view on how the book ended. Instead of relying on the Author to finish they story, you guys wanted it to end a certain way. And that’s fine to have that opinion. If anything it also shows that you guys are dedicated to the story…just in a different way.

The side that I’m on, is the side that TRUSTS the Author to do what she wants with HER WORLD of Characters… She has stated multiple times that this is the TRUE ending, that she didn’t just think of it second handedly, and that this is what she REALLY wanted…

I applaud her for that, it’s a bold move… To take a leap and love your characters so much, that you are willing to risk ridicule for them, to me speaks volumes of how much she loved them.

As an aspiring author/cartoonist I can see where she’s coming from. I would never actually WANT to kill my characters. They mean way to much to me…it would be like killing a child, or my pet… :/ I’m sure Meyer, though she is comfortable “poking them with a stick” wasn’t ready to kill her characters and there’s nothing wrong with that.

We had a happy ending…but I’m glad we did! Bella, Edward and Jake have gone through HORRIBLE things along the way…and it’s nice to see that they will be happy in the end…

  11. mrs.EDWARDCULLEN says:

Hmm…there are many other reviews about Breaking Dawn out there. However, I only see a few. One bad one and the rest good. I know this is a fansite and I totally love these books [BD a little less tho] but I know there are a few articles saying how BD wasn’t that good. They arent trashing the book or anything but are honest opinions which are true. Just wondering why some of them arent on here because they really are interesting reads and informative. Again, don’t say I’m not a true fan just because I didn’t like BD that much. I still love the other 3 books and of course, Edward Cullen<3.
We are all entitled to our own opinions.

  12. Amy H says:

First off I am so happy that you guys are back!! You guys are awesome and I think that you are completely right in regulating the comments on your website. It is your website and therefore you should have on it what you want. Next onto my Breaking Dawn comment. I really enjoyed Breaking Dawn. It wasn’t my favorite in the series, the original Twilight is still my favorite, but it wasn’t my least favorite. As I was reading it I was thrown for a loop and some of the things that happened but by the end I was very satisfied with it. It had one major twist (I am really going to try hard not to put any spoilers in) that I totally wasn’t expecting and wasn’t sure if I like at first but by the end really liked it. For those who thought that the BD was a disappointment, I suggest that you read it again and keep in mind Stephenie has always knew how it was going to end. She had it basically written it after Twilight. Forever Dawn provided a basic outline for it. New Moon and Eclipse weren’t even originally planned. Her publisher and editor wanted to keep it in the YA category for a while longer so she wrote the other two. I think if you read it again, you already know what is going to happen and you will be over the shock of what happened and can enjoy the book. It is more mature but again it has to be. It is the conclusion of the series and ties up all of the lose ends for Bella and Edward including the release of all of the tension that is built up in the other 3 books. I liked the end. I personally think it wasn’t a cop out. The MTV interview with really clarifies why she ended it the way she did. The Q&A’s that Stephenie has done has helped explain a lot of stuff in BD, and has honestly helped me to like the book more than when I initially read it. Everyone has their own opinion and has the right to voice it respectfully but I just think for those who didn’t like it should be respectful to Stephenie. Some comments are some not so much, but for those who didn’t like the BD keep in mind she did write the first three books that we all love so much.

  13. Samantha says:

Guys, could you please stop saying the only reason people didn’t like BD is because it didn’t end how they wanted it to end?
I got everything I wanted out of BD. I also got alot of spelling mistakes and strange plot turns that made no sense (even if they were planned right from the start)
I wanted Bella to be a vampire and marry Edward and live happily ever after, that doesn’t change the fact that I really don’t like the book.
It has nothing to do with how it ended, it’s just a bad book. Let us have our opinions. If you loved it, GREAT! I’m happy for you. I hated it, and I resent the fact that there are all these people telling me the only reason I hated it is because it didn’t go how I wanted, and I know I am not the only one

  14. CKitsune says:

Are the spelling mistakes REALLY all Meyer’s Fault? Or her Editors for not helping her to catch them?

I’ve worked in Collegiate Journalism for the past three years, and I know first hand that it’s HARD to catch your OWN mistakes in your writing…which is why we have copy editors and editors to help out… If there are spelling mistakes, the fault also lies with the editors…

And your post doesn’t make much sense at all…you said that you didn’t like the book just because it didn’t end the way YOU planned…but that’s exactly what you DID say… or implied to say… ._.

  15. CKitsune says:

I’d also like to add that there are spelling mistakes in A LOT of books. Especially the LARGER books…it’s not uncommon at all. There are even TEXT books out there that have spelling issues, and no one complains about THEM.

Also, what is one person’s trash is another’s treasure… XD A lot of fans LOVED the way Breaking Dawn turned out, others didn’t… that doesn’t mean the book was trash…or that it’s not a good book. It’s all relative to opinion… an opinion that you are certainly free to have.

  16. Katherine says:

No. We’re disappointed because we didn’t expect to be disappointed.

I can deal with the rushed wedding
    and the no sex scene
    and the crazy arse pregancy
    and the horror-filled birth
    and the perfect mutant baby
and bellas’ sudden aversion to blood
and the fact that when the volturi come, all that happened was a staring contest

as long as i got my bella and edward romance story
    and i didnt get that.

    So I’m Disappointed

  17. CKitsune says:

Katherine… you DID get the Edward and Bella Romance story…what do you think Renesmee was?

Many have said that when couples have a child, that is the very proof of their love for each other… :/

The fact that Bella was strong enough to carry the Baby, and the fact that Edward did his very best to save HER proved how strong their love is.

Just because we didn’t get any extreme make out scenes doesn’t mean the romance was gone. It just means that it CHANGED.

And Change is exactly what they needed to do. Their lives aren’t their own now, and they have a little person to care for…

I would have been annoyed if they constantly paid attention only to themselves.

As for Bella’s sudden aversion to Blood, that was foreshadowed from book one. The volturi was a court scene and very in character. Renesmee wasn’t a muntain. The horror-filled birth was very real, and it showed the severity of the situation, The pregnancy wasn’t so crazy if you don’t think about it.. and I’m GLAD there wasn’t an extreme graphic sex scene. The wedding WAS a bit rushed, I’ll go with you there. XD

Of course these are just MY opinions. And my observations from a fan who isn’t completely obsessed XD.

I was not disappointed by this book.

  18. CKitsune says:

*I mispelled “mutant” in my previous post…sorry I type rapidly…

  19. proud_twihard says:

well, considering that there are 9 and 10 year old fans, I’d say that the no sex thing was a good call.

  20. melooza says:

I think that it is different to hear that some one was mad that there was NO sex scenes, because I have hear from those around me that they thought there was too much sex! Some one went as far as writing to their collage paper calling it “female porn”. (I do not agree with that in any way.) I think it comes down to seeing things differently. I am going to go out on a limb here, I think the harder thing for some might be the idea of marriage and children is an abstract idea. Some might see those things as the end. However I could be very wrong.
PS I think that the typos’ say more about SM editors then they do her. Just a thought.

  21. proud_twihard says:

I really don’t think it went to far. Maybe for some really young readers, but in that case it isn’t really the book that’s the problem, it’s the parents. For other people, like SM said, so many YA books go way behoyd this, so why is it a problem for BD.

  22. Sarah says:

There are 9-year-old fans? I don’t really see someone being able to grasp the concepts at that young of an age…

The sex…there was a lot of it. There was. That wasn’t the bad part – because DUH, they’re newlyweds, and they DID just go through three 500+ page books of foreplay, so of course they’ll be…er, getting it on, but there wasn’t much QUALITY to it. Obviously, she can’t put something extremely graphic in there (which I DON’T want AT ALL), but maybe if she could focus a little on the…emotions? (Other than raw lust, that is.) Just putting in some of the love…that would be beautiful, but instead there just wasn’t anything like that. :/

That said, when they were in the cottage (I keep on typing Shell Cottage – WRONG SERIES, WHOOPS) and Edward MOANED…OH MY GOD…!!!

  23. Sarah says:

And just during the first seven chapters, I just didn’t feel much emotion. Everything Stephenie is so good at was just a blank there. Everything else, I loved, but those chapters…

  24. karr says:

I loved Breaking Dawn – the fact that it threw me some curve balls.

I expected SM to surprise her readers and somehow bring Jacob/Edwdard together. Did not expect Renesmee or Jacob imprinting on her. I thought that imprinting on a newborn was CREEPY. Creepiness factor went down as more explanation was given on imprinting.

There are typos, there are sentences that are missing a word, grammar errors.

I would have liked for there to have been a big showdown/fight with the Volturi, the Cullens/Werevolves/Allies winning and creating a new era..a new Volturi. I wasn’t disappointed with the Volturi stare down because I had already been disappointed in Eclipse with the newborn battle and expected the Volturi showdown to go without much event.

I didn’t like the way Bella’s change was handled with Charlie. He was the one I expected to be the one to die for some reason. And maybe the reason why all of a sudden we have a story in the shadows between Billy/Charlie/Sue??

As far as the characters being different. They definitely were. But for me, that was just part of circumstances, life events, learning.

As far as someone central dying. For me, someone did die – Bella. Reading about Bella’s birth, she was no longer Bella to me. Being torn, ripped to shreds, her heart stopping. I lost the Bella we knew at that moment. We get her back but not the same. For Edward, Bella is everything and his mood was fit as one can’t be without the other – I saw him dying with her. Again, we get him back.

Rosalie, wanted to bash her head in!! But it wasn’t anything less than I would have expected from her – when presented with what she covets most. We saw her characteristics multiplied by 1000.

Emmett, there are reviews that say he changed and all of a sudden started making sexual jokes. He has always been the Joker…and now Bella was part of the family, and the intimacy that comes with being part of a family.

I think if everyone was happy, loved the book, it would make for a BORING place. I like hearing others’ views, opinions. Makes you think and view things in a different light. And just because someone didn’t like it, doesn’t take away from being a fan just as much as loving the book adding more to being a fan. My least favorite book was New Moon. Does that make me less of a fan even though I liked Breaking Dawn? I don’t think so…same goes for those who didn’t like Breaking Dawn.

  25. Devon061381 says:

I’m going to take a wild stab in the dark here, so correct me if I MAY be wrong: the fans that think there “wasn’t enough Edward/Bella romance” in BD are not married.

Point 1: Remember in Twilight, when Edward mentioned lust and love keeping the same company. Yeah, that’s all BD.

Point 2: They’re newlyweds. Horny newlyweds. For Pete’s sake, I’ve been married 2 years now, and “the honeymoon” hasn’t worn off yet, so I certainly relate to how Bella is feeling. Fans are not going to understand this until they’ve been in this situation, either a newbie to the married state, or a vet. Just because there isn’t anymore face and collarbone-stroking and 5 pages of how much and how deeply they love each other, and why they have to be careful, doesn’t mean that “there wasn’t any romance.” This is a natural progression of a relationship – marriage and glorious sex ARE AWESOME!!!! LOL. I love being married. Obviously, Bella and Edward are as well. Be happy for them, and the maturation of their feelings, and now finally being able to physically demonstrate that love (and have a product of it, for that matter, with Renesmee).

That’s my 2 cents on that matter :)

  26. Terri says:

Devon- You are correct about the romance. I could not understand how anyone could not see it. It is much deeper and more tender and subtle than in previous books. It’s not 5 pages it’s one sentence. It is in a look or touch of the cheek or in playing the piano to welcome her home. It’s also not making it to the bed in the cottage. The first words out of her mouth when she wakes up are “I love you” and Edward’s response is “As I love you.” That did it for me.

  27. Samantha says:

“you said that you didn’t like the book just because it didn’t end the way YOU planned…but that’s exactly what you DID say… or implied to say… ._.”

    What?
I said everything I wanted to happen in BD, happened. Apart from Bella and Edward getting married, and Bella becoming a vampire, I had absolutely no ideas about what would happen in BD at all and never once have I said anything different. Did I missunderstand your post? All the dids and didn’ts are confusing me.

  28. Devon061381 says:

Right-on, Terri! HA! Edward playing the piano for Bella to welcome her home positively gave me goose bumps. Darn my husband and his lack of musical abilities :)

  29. mimi says:

most of the negative reviews were funny
    :]
    i totally agree

  30. Skler says:

I agree with Samantha here, and I completely understand what she’s trying to say. CKitsune, to be honest, I dont understand YOUR post.
Everyone always knew that Bella would be with Edward, what we’re saying, (well Samantha’s saying it, I just agree totally), is that everything inbetween was just poorly written.
To me, it kind of seems like SM is trying to scare readers into thinking that it’s horrible to have sex before marrige. (and if you don’t agree with me, good for you, its just what I think.) The way that she barely delved into the sex scenes, but spent a good chunk of the book telling us, with horrifying descriptions, what a nightmare her pregnancy was, seemed to try to frighten us into abstinence. (Not that I’m having sex, which I’m not, but I still believe that people should have a choice and not be judged by it.) DISCLAIMER: These are my thoughts and opinions, and if you disagree, neat. I’m not speaking for ANYONE except for myself.

  31. Epimenidesparadox says:

I don’t really think she was trying to frighten you into abstinence….not unless you plan to have a vampire/human baby….
At any rate, no matter how she wrote the book, one side was going to be offended. What if she wasn’t trying to scare you into abstinence? What if she wrote just the opposite and did everything out of “traditional” order?(not that I believe one is write or wrong)You know people would have been ticked. SM had a tough decision to make but she made an informed decision on how she thought the characters would progress. After all, who knows her characters better than herself?

  32. Epimenidesparadox says:

Sorry, I also had to add that the excuse that “everything was too perfect” is what makes this a bad book is ridiculous. The reasoning “life isn’t always perfect” is easily refuted with “life doesn’t always SUCK”. Sometimes things do work out perfectly. Sometimes in life you build yourself up, prepare yourself for the worst, wait for the bang, and then things work out. I’ve had those moments. I’m still having those moments. Sorry, I had to add that lexicon:)

  33. laluna says:

“Everyone always knew that Bella would be with Edward, what we’re saying, (well Samantha’s saying it, I just agree totally), is that *everything inbetween was just poorly written*.”

    exactly!
