Stockport, UK Borders Release Party

From Jenny a Borders UK employee,

I work at a Borders store in the UK, and I am trying to organise a Breaking Dawn/Twilight day on the 2nd August, at our store. We have been told that any events will have to be store organised, as not all stores are doing anything for the release.

We have also been informed today that there can be no BD midnight release parties in the UK, as we are not legally allowed to sell the book until 4.01am, due to embargo laws (and something to do with the US release being at 12.01am).

My manager has said, however, that we can open our store an hour early, and hold events through-out the day, as long as we can generate some interest. I know how popular Stephenie is in our store and locally, as she is pretty much our biggest selling author at the moment. But, I think my manager will need proof.

Would anyone be interested in a Breaking Dawn release day? I need some evidence (ie. print-out of comments etc…) to show that it would be a worthwile event for us.

I work at Borders in Stockport, which is close to Manchester, in the UK. I REALLY want to do something on the release day (as you can probably tell, I’m a crazy obsessed Twilight fan), and thought I’d ask you for help as you are the leading Twilight site, and have a lot of UK visitors.

Well UK Twilighters?  Are you interested?

Edit:  Jenny has created a facebook account for those interested in the release party.

I came to the Harry Potter release night and I bet it would be as good as that, we could get that many people to come.

  14. Janelle says:

    Hey,

I’d love to see a BD release party in the UK, but the nearest Borders to me is the Cheshire Oaks store, any chance of one there?

  15. I’m in Birmingham too and I’d love one. I’ll bring all 17 of my friends who have read it if there is one!

  16. And Spain? What about Spain!!! We are always the latest…

  17. iluvtwilight says:

does anyone know if anything is happening at borders in brighton?

  18. Sequinnzz says:

I would like to thank Borders for not having any stores in N.Ireland :|:(

Although I’d say throughout the U.K there would be wide interest. So, go for it!

  19. Bronagh says:

Speaking of N.Ireland what about the south as well? I’m sure loads of people would come if there was in Dublin.

I *think* we have a borders.

  20. I’ll go!

  21. Hey guys…

Thanks for the positive responses! Not every Borders store is having BD events during the day – it’s up to us (employees) to organise it ourselves.

I THINK Cheshire Oaks is doing something on August 2nd, though I’m not sure what. I’ll try and find out.

    Jenny

  22. Stephanie says:

    OMG OMG YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!

I will travel all the way down from Glasgow just to be there, i don’t know any other UK Twilight fans.

REALLY HOPE IT HAPPENS!!! *fingers and toes crossed*

  23. VampGirl says:

U guys r sooooooooo lucky!!! I’m going on vacation that week to Minnesota and I’m gonna be hours away from civilazation when it comes out!!!!!!! But my Daddy says he’ll have it specialy shipped to the closest store we can find.

  24. lidiacriss says:

That would be cool, I don’t live in the UK but if I did I would totally want that to happen!

  25. Okay… for anyone interested in attending at Stockport, I’ve created a Facebook group (seems the best way to keep in contact with everyone, though you have to log in to view the group).

Borders Stockport Breaking Dawn Release Day –

    http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=14321975558&ref=mf

Please join that, and we’ll see if we can make this happen!

  26. nicgurl990 says:

I would love to come but not in the area. If it were released just 3 days earlier I would be there (Study abroad in the UK). But I wish you the best of luck, you will get what you need.

  27. OMG i am so PISSED!!!

I live in Malaysia, which is in Asia, and yesterday I went to Borders to see if I could place a special order for Breaking Dawn, and the guy told me that we won’t be getting it till a MONTH after it’s released!!!!

    AAAAAARRGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!

  28. hey guys, i’m not from Uk, i’m from Ireland
it’s so unfair, nobody wants to organize anything here!!
and we all know theres tons of fans here too!!!
:D but aaaah cannot wait for breaking dawn!!

    lots of love from Ireland

    Orla
    xx

  29. Woop woop i am actually at uni in manchester! Sad news is i’ll have gone home for summer back then :( ahh maybe i can make the journey back. it’s “only” about a 3 hour drive!

  30. OK

you want a comment, you got it!

TWILIGHT, NEW MOON, ECLIPSE AND OF COURSE BREAKING DAWN ARE MY LIFE (sad right? wrong! you would not believe the amount of people devoted and committed and hopelessly in awe of stephenie meyer and her books.

seriously, the fandom is out of control, and yes of couse the USA are larger then us, but my god! the UK are just as enthusiastic about the release of stephenie meyers breaking dawn.

i bought twilight when it first ever came out and i have been hooked ever since! as is everyone else!

there are thousands upon thousands of sites devoted to the twilight saga, and i guess obsession is an understatement!

yes i am upset that we cannot have a midnight release party but please to not rule out everyting else (you would crush the hearts of half the population!)

having a breaking dawn party on the same day we get the book is ideally the best idea.

and i doubt anyone would mind if they got charged a fee to get in!

bringing fans together will MAKE US SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY, HAVING THIS PARTY WILL TAKE US OVER THE MOON!!!

SO IF ANY EVENTS MANAGERS HAVE DOUBTS ABOUT THE TURN OUT OR THINK THIS WONT BE SUCH A BIG EVENT, YOU WOULD BE SOOOOOO WRONG, THIS WOULD BE THE ONE SINGLE THING WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TOO THIS YEAR (APART FROM THE TWILIGHT MOVIE WHOOOOOO!!!!)

SO PLEASE MAKE OUR DREAMS COME TRUE!

(OR WE’LL SEND THE VOLTURI AFTER YOU!)

  31. … Does this mean Oxford Street is no longer doing anything on the 2nd? If it does that’s kinda rubbish, since I was attending to go, and had got tens of people to come too :(

I’d love to come, but it’s too far away, and my mum says she won’t drive me, boo. But if anyone could confirm about the Oxford Street do, that’d be great.

  32. EclipseBells says:

yeah…this is really confusing! i thought borders in London had confirmed a midnight release,

and i’m sure Birmingham said they would be having an evening party….does anyone have ANY idea whats actually going on in the UK???…ergh, if only i lived in America…:D

  33. Piggyboo! says:

    omgosh in MAN U
Ay ay ay I aint going it rival territory LOL
Joke Jokes. It just that imma arsenal fan!
My step-dad lives there and his planning to take my mum up there to ”show off” in the summer hols soo I try but is an ”No Kids allowed” thing … ooh what are they up too!
But doing one in London is an muuuuuch better option for me newayz.

  34. Some Borders stores are doing things – as far as I know – Birmingham, Oxford, Cheshire Oaks and Stockport definitely are. But it can’t happen at midnight.

  35. Kelsieeee says:

I’d definately go to the Stockport one! I only live an hour away! Halifax! :D
I could bring…about three people, which is something!

But i’m not creating a facebook just to say that i’ll go.

But if your looking for comments from people who will go, i’ll make it eye catching…

!!!!!I’LL COME TO THE STOCKPORT RELEASE PARTY!!!!!

  36. OMGGGGGGGGGGGG MANCHESTER !

Everyone at my school have been saying there would be a midnight release party but oh well :(…. but hell yeah day midday release party kind of thing would be just as good! ;)

I literally speak for like 1000 people at my school, everyone wants a breaking dawn party!!

  37. Will there be one in Bristol borders? I don’t have facebook.

  38. ibelieveinnargles says:

    I’ll definitely go. :]

  39. Danni Fitton says:

    Definitely..
    I’ll be there..
    with herds of friends

    xxxxx

  40. Oh awesome! I live in the US but im going to be in Cardiff through the summer so i was so sad about missing all the parties here in the states but if theres a chance of going to one id be more then willing to get myself up to Manchester!

  41. I would go to something in London, as it takes me 1 hour to get to there, plus time to get around. BUT I’m flying to Canada ON the 2nd! It is so annoying. I’m going to have to try and find something there in the afternoon/evening, or something on the 1st in the UK.

  42. Bransie says:

Even though I live in the U.S., wyoming actually, I think it would be awesome to attend an all day party for the Breaking Dawn release. I also think it is crap that some borders stores are thinking that these types of parties will not have a big turn out. Won’t they be wrong!

  43. Hollabaloo says:

HEY!!!!!!!! although I do not live in Bristol, They are my NEAREST Borders store, can anyone tell me how to find out about release parties????(if anyone is listening, like jenny, if they held 1 in bristol, a truckload of my twifriends would come, so they would have AT LEAST 20 people.seriously.)
I have BEEN on the borders site, but no luck…

    HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!

  44. I think I’d be there on the 2nd! :D

  45. OMEC
