Looking For Jacob Black
Posted by pelirroja - 18/01/08 at 10:01 amThere is an article in the Yakoma Herald Today about there being an open call to fill the role of Jacob Black for the Twilight movie.
The next bit is copied from the casting agency’s MySpace which SillyBella graciously sent to me. If anyone from the agency is reading this and would prefer than we not list the items please email me at pelirroja_ljc@yahoo.com. Also, before everyone starts asking, to the best of my knowledge Stephenie has not given anyone the rights to do a sequel, but film companies standardly put sequels into an initial contract hoping to get the same actors if the film really takes off (Pirates of the Caribean anyone?). It’s their hope that then the author would want them to do a sequel if they do a good job on the first one and they have taken the first step to insure a successful sequel happens by making sure the original cast is available.

"Twilight" begins shooting in Oregon at the end of February
PORTLAND, ORE. Lana Veenker Casting announced today that it is seeking a 16-18 year old Native American male to play a significant role in the upcoming Summit Entertainment film "Twilight," directed by Catherine Hardwicke.
The film is based on the publishing phenomenon "Twilight," written by Stephenie Meyer, and is highly anticipated due to its popularity among young adults.
"Director Catherine Hardwicke is keen to find the right teenager for the role of Jacob," says Casting Director Lana Veenker, owner of the Portland, Oregon-based casting company. "Besides being an authentic Native American, he needs to have charm and charisma. At this point, Catherine is more concerned about finding someone with the right looks and personality, than she is about prior acting experience. And he needs to be available for sequels! This will be an amazing opportunity for one lucky teenager."
An open casting call will take place in Portland on Saturday, January 19, 2008, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Lana Veenker Casting, 2580 NW Upshur Street, Portland, Oregon 97212. Applicants who fit the age and ethnicity requirements for the role will have their photos taken and may be asked to read lines in front of the director.
Applicants who are unable to attend Saturday’s open call should email their contact information and a photo to talent@slateplease.com. More information is available on the casting company’s website at slateplease.com or on its MySpace page at myspace.com/lanaveenkercasting.
No other roles will be considered at the open call, but persons interested in working as extras on the film can send their information to Rutabaga Background Casting, the extras division of Lana Veenker Casting. Instructions are available at sayrutabaga.com.

OMG! I am so glad they’re having an open casting call!! I was really worried that they might cast someone who is Spanish or Mexican or Latin American because of hair or skin color, but this is excellent!!!!!!!!!! I really hope whoever they chose is cute but he’d better be able to act!
By the way, anyone who lives in Washington or Oregon are the luckiest people in the world. I would give anything to live there even if the movie wasn’t there…
wait. . .when it’s talking about the extras, is that for twilight because i went to the site and it said it was for some other movie. . .and i really want to be an extra. someone fill me in plz!!!
I’m sort of unhappy about this…I mean I love Jacob. Actors with experience will be playing Edward and Bella and yet Jacob’s part has an open call :S? It’s not that I won’t be happy for whoever plays Jacob, I just hope that whoever will be Jacob will do justice to his character.

ugh that site didn’t work!!! I need to find out about the being an extra thing! I think they’re SERIOUSLY rushing things!! I mean the only people they have casted so far are Edward *sigh* and Bella!! There are sooo many other characters!! Well, they can do the scenes with just robert and kirsten for now, but they better start casting the rest soon!!!

Oh! I didn’t know this had been going around for a while… hmm. I think it’s GREAT they are casting a true Native American for the role. This post totally confirmed all my theories on the actor to be Jacob… and how difficult it will be finding him. There is obviously a shortage of Native American actors out there who have Jacob’s sort of charisma and the vibe. Interesting. They sound very desperate.

about the other cast members this is the lastest i’ve heard is that there is supposed to be some casting press release on january 30. but i have NO CLUE if this is a rumor or not….
Oh. This is awesome! Im so glad the director is working hard to find the right Jacob. He’s such a big character in the book even though i’m a HUGE Edward fan the book just wouldn’t be the same wothout him. =-) Good luck to anyone who’s trying out.

This is really exciting! I know that Jacob is supposed to be much smaller and younger looking in Twilight, but I don’t think it’s a big deal if they cast a New Moon aged and eclipse Jacob, as long as they buff him up a little for the sequels (hoping that there will be). I’m also happy to hear that they have chosen to go the authentic route, it will just make the movie even more close to home for me. I also heard the rumor about the January 30th casting release, but I don’t want to get my hopes up for something that has not been legitely confirmed. This has got me wondering though…is Jacob the last to be cast? Or were Kristen and Robert the only ones so far?
Only time will tell I suppose.

my brother is an actor and even though they are going to start filming they probably already have the unannounced actors picked. It takes time to secure a contract with the characters especially with a sequel. If the twilight movie is as good as the book then i would definately want a lot more money to do the sequels.
Okay–those of us who actually live in the Northwest would really appreciate it if the names of things were spelled correctly–its YAKIMA, not Yakoma–I’m sure the Native Americans would appreciate it too–
this is thrilling, i can NOT wait to see twilight. i do hope its good though. im a little afraid the movie will ruin the books though

who knows. probably not though. its seems all release dates are always pushed back. it will be dissappointing if it doesn’t. i’m excited to see how well or not the produce the movie.

And for the person who said Jacob doesn’t have a significant role in Twilight – just because it is small doesn’t mean it is insignificant. Jacob was the one who told Bella that Edward was a vampire. I think that’s pretty significant.
Jacob has a small role, but it’s very important.
If Jacob had never been there to tell Bella Edward’s secret who knows what would have happened (probably nothing)!

I love werewolves and JACOB (Of course who could not?) and he is actually in twilight quite often as such at the beach, The prom and when billy comes to see charlie so he is a quite important character and should not be forgotten!

Hey, that’s pretty cool. I live in Yakima and there is a large native american population here. I could have walked past “Jacob Black” yesterday at the mall and not have even known it. Exciting.
I’m a little worried because they are casting someone who will be in all the sequels – Jacob’s looks age significantly between Twilight and Eclipse. He’s supposed to look 15 in Twilight then suddenly be really tall and look like a 25 year old in Eclipse! So, either the Jacob in Twilight is going to look 25 or Jacob in Eclipse is going to look 15.
Yikes!
Either way, I’m excited, though! The suspense is killing me!
Hopefully this Jacob will have a exact double (somewere) that is 25 years old which is not exactly likely but if this Jacob suddenly looks 25 in the next year or so..We will have a werewolf actor and Stephanie will have proof that they are real! (OOh Jacob is getting closer *Squee!!!!!* very excited!)
Yeah age might be an issue in sequels(at least I hope there’ll be sequels). Maybe we’ll get lucky and whoever they cast will happen to have a huge growth spurt and get really tall and muscular…

Edward is only meant to appear 17 but Robert Pattinson is currently 21. Can you imagine if they cast a real 17 year old boy in the spot? He would ALMOST certainly be gangly, uncoordinated and EVERYTHING Edward is not- most 17 year olds have yet to mature properly. Likewise with Jacob.
They just got lucky with Kristen because a) she’s appears much more mature than the average seventeen year old- incidentally, she is also very near eighteen, and b) she’s a girl, and girls tend to mature quicker.
Thanks Tina, your right, older actors are necessary. I just hope whoever they choose looks like how Stephenie decribed him in Twilight. (lol a gangly Edward!)
wow. tyler posey would DEFINATELY be the most amazing part for jacob black! he goes to my school and he fits all the requirements and has a great personality. he’s always smiling and happy, and is young but mature. and you can’t forget how gorgeous he is! :]

You should consider looking at Moronai Kanekoa as Jacob Black. He was recently in the Lds movie Passage to Zarahemla and he was so hot in it! I think he would be great as Jacob!
im excited 4 this. It means they’re that much closer 2 filming the movie. I just hope they make the right choice about jacob black; in my mind i always saw the actor brandon baker (from the johnny tsunami movies on disney channel)
Some people have been saying that they’ve seen pics of Jacob auditions. Where did you guys find them!?! I’d really like to see me some Jake possibilities!!!!
Has anyone had a look at Gus Carr? He might be a little old for the first movie, but he reminds me of Jacob so well, or at least how I think Jacob would look when he joins the pack!
I really hope they pick a great Jacob, i think it is a little wierd that the people who cast the actors, on Jacob since he has a major roll in the book for telling Bella that Edward was a Vamp.,they decided to get someone fresh. So does that mean the are holding more auditions for people to play as the characters or they just did an audition for Jacob Black?
