thats great! i can’t believe i never thought of 13 year old boys reading the books. its still weird to me though…
and I’m a little miffed they could get Edward’s age right. 200 indeed!
omg i love when guys get into this book! and i really dont blame stephenie for ‘slowing down’. she has worked her ass off and it deffinitly paid off!and she should take the time to write…its always better the more thought you put into it. dont get me wrong, im counting down the days till breaking dawn is released!
Since when is Edward 200 years-old? lol. I’m also very sad to have it verified that Bella will not narrate after Breaking Dawn, but I have faith Stephenie will end it well. I was also very surprised by the description of Bella, “extraordinarily petulant and selfish.” Not that I don’t agree, people just don’t usually say that right out.
I also love that the article starts out with five boys talking about Twilight, as opposed to girls. Maybe it’ll help spread the word among guys that Twilight isn’t just for girls.
Can’t wait until Breaking Dawn!
It’s pretty cool that there’s an article in a Canadian paper about the books, but the paragraph where they give a short description of the characters left me a little unhappy. Calling Bella petulant and selfish, Edward a 200-year-old teenager, and Jacob a werewolf with anger problems? I don’t know if the journalist read the books or not, but it really doesn’t sound like they did… Jacob’s a bit egotistical, but is really very sweet just below that.
Yeah, since when is Edward 200 years old??!! I also found it very interesting that they thought Bella was selfish, I always thought of her as selfless. It was an awesome article though!
( especialy the begining with the boys reading it )
The teenage boys part was interesting. Actually, I saw a freshman boy reading Eclipse about a month ago and I almost fainted when I saw him walking down the hall while reading it, lol.
Edward, 200? How rude. He’s only 106! He hasn’t even been a vampire for a century yet! They got the petulant part of Bella right, but she’s not selfish all the time. She’s more selfish about what she doesn’t want rather than what she wants. ^^; Pretty good article none the less.
Woah! Hahah. I liked the artcle, but kind of funny at the beginning though. Still, I know here in Puerto Rico when Stephenie Meyer released date of any book in particular can last weeks to get here. It’s a lame to call Borders each day and ask for any book by Steph; everything it’s all worth it when you have the “Bible”, like I say to Twilight or New Moon or Eclipse, of course as a joke. I wish Bella can turn into a vampire, but like in the middle of the book it could then be like a suspense because maybe Bella can actually have some sort of power. But, what if she becomes more powerful than any Cullen?? Woah, or even more pretty than Rosalie? Too many questions and still half a year ahead for Breaking Dawn.
I think they were thinking of Angel from the Buffy series (he was over 200)
I was re-reading Twilight the other day and a 12 year old boy said “ohh that’s a good book!” with enthusiam I might add. I thought it was awesome that a boy that young liked the book! I’m still trying to get my husband to read it…he’s a bit harder to convince. =)
Anyway, any new article or whatever new tidbit it might be to read is great to see!
shes really not that selfish…
but i love how the books are becoming super famous. people ask you “oh whats that twilight book about?” you say “vampires” and of course they give you *that look* but now the books are becoming extra popular being made into a movie, and soon we’ll have a world wide phenomena on our hands like harry potter. im excited ha i also love boys who read these books. its great.
Since when is Edward 200? And Bella isn’t all that “extraordinarily petulant and selfish” as far as I’m concerned. (at least not the selfish part. Petulant, sure.)
I loved the teenage boys arguing. I wouldn’t be surprised if the argument turned physical. I could even get to that point with the female fans!
Well, anyway, huzzah for Stephenie getting more publicity. Yay! :]
Pretty good article. They messed up on Edward’s age but that’s alright. That’s very interesting that b/e were engaged at the end of Twilight originally! I didn’t know that before.
This article was pretty cool, but I agree that the character descriptions were not good. Edward 200??? NOT! lol. no, but this is really cool! GO STEPHENIE!
That’s one of the better articles I’ve read about the series. I’m glad Stephenie and her perspective on the books was relied upon for a lot of its content.
edward aint 200 years old…..because im pretty sure he was born in 1901!!!! Anyways its good to know people are paying attention (FINALLY!) to these awesome, fantastic books!!!! (especially now that Harry Potter is finished!)
So my sentiments are fairly similar to the ones that were said before me.
Since when is Edward 200 years old??
Besides that, I think that the publicity is great. Hopefully even more Twilight-obsessed fans wil be joining the lex discussions soon!
Everytime the words “Breaking Dawn” are said, I can’t help but search for any new hints. I’m waiting (as I’m everyone else on here is) for the day of it’s release, and hope that SM keeps her promise about ending of well (as well as not making it a cliffhanger). I’m sure she won’t let us down (or else she will have a looooot of angry fangirls knocking down her door)
though the description of the book sucked, i think it was overshadowed by the GUYS READING THE BOOK thing! i know a few who do; they just REALLY want bella to get bitten (not that the rest of us dont, it’s just that’s the only reason they keep reading.) then there’s the my-girlfriend’s-making-me-read-this group…
way to give away the werewolf thing to new fans, mr. archer.
I liked the article, pretty funny about 13 year old boys who would have known the demographics that Stephenie would reach. All I know is that the houswives in my town are going crazy over the Twilight series, I love it!!!
Its so weird to think boys read these books, because everyone i know whos read these books were girls. And Since when is Edward 200 years old?! *gasp* I hope stephenie doesn’t end Breaking Dawn with a cliffhanger!
The ‘Twilight-Saga’ is awesome!! I’m glad to see that is getting noticed all over the world! Amazing!!
Only sad thing, it’s sounding like only one more book!!! But “all good things must come to an end”, right? Who knows though, maybe Stephenie will write more!! *fingers-crossed*
Hmmm….Edward isn’t 200. Everyone makes mistakes though!
And 13 year-old-boys? I thought girls read the series more and they didn’t even mention us. =( lol
Yeah. Since when is Edward 200 ? Wow. nobody told me that. Yeesh. And.. Bella being Selfish !? What is that about ? I couldn’t believe what it said. I think hey ment the whole, her making Edward stay with her type thing. But still. She fells horrible about the whole thing.. GRR And Jacob doesn’t have anger issues.. that much… Okay ! He can’t help it if when he gets angry he mophs into a wolf !
Besides That I think it is pretty cool Haha ! I LOVE YOU STEPHENIE !!! You are like.. My Idol..
It was a well written article, I guess, though I wish they’d left out the boy saying the book was gay. I dunno, I guess I live in a censored city. I’m sensitive to that stuff. Though I think the character descriptions were a bit weak, to put it lightly. Bella is petulant and selfish, Edward is a 200-year-old, and my beloved Jacob has anger issues? I think somebody needs to read over the books.
Edward is NOT 200. And The artcle was good. But I am afraid of the whole “Bella not being the narrator after BD”. i kid of like reading things from her point of view. I hope that’s not Stephenie’s final decision :/
I’m not too pleased with the inaccuracy of some of the claims in the article. But such is the world of journalism. Sometimes, they just never get it completely right.
I’m proud of Stephenie for all her success! Her books are fantastic, she’s a brilliant author and that’s all that matters.
You know, as much as I LOVE the Twilight series getting media attention especially in Canada, but I wish there could be a headline that refrains from comparison to Harry Potter. I absolutely LOVE both series, but they’re different and this just helps foster rivalries between the fandoms which are intertwined to start with. It’s just unproductive.
Beyond the headline, I love how the G&M draws attention to the boys who are interested in Twilight. There’s a horrible double standard that while plenty of girls will read books where the main character is male (Harry Potter, Eragon, etc.), not many guys are keen to read books where the star is female (Twilight) unless there’s nudity and/or lots of violence involved (Anita Blake). Three cheers to Stephenie for breaking down that barrier!
2,300 people at the Toronto signing?! I had estimated 750!!! They had 600 bracelets and then a ton of people standing outside when they ran out… I was #66! That is just… sweet.
Yeah, thank God Stephenie isn’t a fundamentalist mormon. Sure, her values are weaved through the books (not a bad thing), but she’s not out to convert everybody.
“Jacob, an aboriginal teenage werewolf with anger issues;” Oh come on! Sure, he spazzes on occasion, but anger issues doesn’t put him in the good light he deserves…
And Edward isn’t 200 years old. He says in Eclipse that he’s almost a hundred and ten.
”the extraordinarily petulant and selfish Bella, who is the saga’s heroine.”
JUST BECAUSE SHE SEES HERSELF THAT WAY DOESN’T MAKE IT TRUE!!! There’s not ONE person out there who wouldn’t get a little selfish if they had both Edward AND Jacob after their hearts. Hell, a lot of us here have t-shirts saying ”who says I have to choose?” and such. The average Twilight fan is more selfish than our Bella.
“‘People are crazy,’ she says of the sort of fundamentalists who rose up against the demonic supernaturalism of Harry Potter. ‘I have a hard time figuring that out. There are people out there who know my books are about vampires and won’t pick them up.’”
THANK. YOU. It’s nice to see talented, religious authors sticking up for Harry Potter and as well as for her own books, which my aunt insists are ”demonic” (and no, she hasn’t read them. Typical).
‘ “She’s not going to narrate after this book. I think people are going to be satisfied with the resting place of this.” ‘
!!!!!
I hope either Edward or Jacob narrates. I’d rather not have a totally new original character just take up the series… but that’s just me.
Edward isn’t 200 years old, i nevr thought of Jacob having anger issues or that Bella is selfish. i think they need to read the books again.’Bella not being the narrator’? Does this mean that maybe Edward will be taking over the saga after Breaking Dawn? i hope not. i like Bella’s piont of view. this also brings another question to mind, is there going to more books in the saga after Breaking Dawn?
Hey, I couldn´t agree more with Roxanne! My aunt also dislike those books (hp & twilight) and calls tham ¨devilish¨, though she hasn´t read them.
The article….whoa. I liked the way it started and ended with boys talking about Eclipse (In my class, there are a couple of boys reading Twilight, and they seem to like it a lot !). But, it had many things that were WRONG. Since when Edward is 200 years? And Jacob has anger issues? What about Bella? ¨Extraordinarily petulant and selfish¨? No way. It seems like the person who wrote it had read a really bad internet summary!
But, otherwise, it´s awesome that the TS are such a big and great thing!
Go Stephenie!!
I thought that Stephenie said that Bella would stop narrating after Breaking Dawn, but she would still continue to be in the books and series after that. I personally think everyone is slightly over-reacting to this point. I mean, we’re all going to buy them and read them anyway and eventually (if not at first) learn to love them. You can’t possiblely stay mad at a book forever because there’s always something that you find Funny, or cute, etc…. I understand if you don’t agree with the views of the book, but come on it’s fiction people!
I was a bit surprised about the exageration this writer used. Bella’s not that bad and neither is Jacob. We all have our moments, it just depends how frequent or infrequent they are.
On a whole, I suppose the article isn’t that bad. I enjoyed it for the most part, especially the boys. They even mentioned Twilight on Mugglenet.com’s podcast (Mugglecast) the other day. This one guy wrote in saying that tons of guys read Twilight (they had said before it was mainly for girls). Well, guys are making a stand in the Twilight Fan world aren’t they?
Stephenie totally needs a break. And I’m happy that she says she’s going to finish Bella and Edward’s story before she does it. Wouldn’t it stink to have a cliffhanger? haha!
The article was great and I have to disagree with some people here. Even though the descriptions of the characters are a little exaggerated, they are within the ball park. Sure Edward isn’t 200, but he’s kind of close. Jake does have some anger issues, but that’s normal with teenagers and Bella is selfish. SORRY! I’m not insulting Bella at all, but she is selfish. I think Bella is great and all, but saying ‘selfless’ is too far gone in my opinion. She’s going to abandon her family and friends to be with Edward. That’s great, but also selfish. No matter hoe justified her actions are, she is selfish. Everyone is a little and it’s not some horrible thing.
Arg, they got Edward’s age wrong! They said he was 200, when it is explicitly stated that he is 106 (wait…that was me doing the math. Oops.) How can you be off by a century?
Boys read Twilight, too! *angel chorus* There is hope for humanity yet.
Haha! Whoever wrote that is funny. And I know everyone has already said this but they got Edward’s age wrong. I think he would be offended by that And I also love how they describe Bella and Jacob. Jacob has anger problems hahahahha.
My friend ( who is a 13-year old boy) got halfway through Twilight. He said it was okay. And I said PSHAW!
“I also love the fact that the boys were reading it, the one who said it was “gay†can go jump off a cliff somewhere :]
I was also surprised that Bella was selfish, I always thought she was selfless too.”
I so agree with you Adrienne !!!
I cracked up laughing at the “jacob has anger issues” part. But 13-year old boys reading Steph’s books? WOW. That stole the show. It might have just passed over them missing Edward’s age by a century. Maybe.
wow… they called Bella selfish. That was mean. Edward isnt 200 either… and they said he ate people!!! NOOOO!!!
(ahem) anyway, That writer didnt have her facts straight. She/he must have not read the book. Although, i cant argue about what they said with Jacob..HaHa. I do love it that boys get involoved though. It makes me feel better about my boyfriend reading it
I can’t agree that Bella is “extraordinarily petulant and selfish.” Trying to find happiness is not a selfish behavior–unless you walk all over other people to get there. Bella realizes that her commitment to Edward has caused and will continue to cause a lot of pain to her other loved ones. She agonizes over the happiness of Jacob and she’s concerned for her parents’ feelings. That kind of concern indicates more of a selfless nature than a selfish one. As to being petulant, she certainly has a temper, and she doesn’t always make mature decisions, but have a heart! She’s seventeen/eighteen, dealing with a lot of “lose – lose” situations here! I am impressed that she quite rightly tries to follow her heart without causing undue hurt to those she loves.
The publicity is good, but I think the article was overall, very ignorant. Edward, 200 years old? Bella, extraordanarily petulant and selfish? Please.
Plus, I thought they over emphasized Stephenie being Mormon. Is’s not that big of a deal, especially pertaining to the actual books themselves. Hopefully next time, they’ll do their research before writing such a condescending and inaccurate article.
whoever wrote that article sounds like they do NOT like the series…they obviously havent read the book well, i mean 200 years old??…calling them blood sucking…”Pretty good for a series about vampires where there’s no sex, no swearing and even most of the violence happens off page.” True, but not a nice way to say it. “extraordinarily petulant and selfish”
…
OK, so yeah, I agree, I don’t think that the reporter read the book, especially eclipse… whats this about no sex? Bella and Edward get pretty close… and there is definately a lot of discussion about it. And I really wish they hadn’t brought up the whole religion thing so much… Especially after the whole Golden Compass ridiculousness, I really just want to enjoy a good book. I don’t care if Stephenie is Mormon or not, and I don’t want that to be a big deal. So basically, I agree with most of you who have posted above. It wasn’t a great article, but I was very happy to see them mention the Toronto signing
thats great! i can’t believe i never thought of 13 year old boys reading the books. its still weird to me though…
and I’m a little miffed they could get Edward’s age right. 200 indeed!
omg i love when guys get into this book! and i really dont blame stephenie for ‘slowing down’. she has worked her ass off and it deffinitly paid off!and she should take the time to write…its always better the more thought you put into it. dont get me wrong, im counting down the days till breaking dawn is released!

I lived the article, it was something new to read.
I find that a lot of the other articles written always sound the same.
I also love the fact that the boys were reading it, the one who said it was “gay” can go jump off a cliff somewhere :]
I was also surprised that Bella was selfish, I always thought she was selfless too.
hmm interesting.

aw man, but i saw in an interview where she said she was writing an outline for book five… dsgyshdgusdg this will be a sad ending for me
OMC! I saw this in the newspaper this morning, and ripped it out to show my TOF! I love it when twilight makes the news!
the got some things wrong, but over-all it is a good article. i loved the ‘four boys’ thing in the end and the begining
Since when is Edward 200? And Bella isn’t all that “extraordinarily petulant and selfish” as far as I’m concerned. (at least not the selfish part. Petulant, sure.)

200?!
ANGER ISSUES?!
SELFISH?!
obviously the writer didn’t read the books. journalism 101: always do your research.
I think it’s great that teenage boys get in touch with the ROMANTIC side of their nature, and Edward is a good “gentleman” role model.
Arg, they got Edward’s age wrong! They said he was 200, when it is explicitly stated that he is 106 (wait…that was me doing the math. Oops.) How can you be off by a century?
Boys read Twilight, too! *angel chorus* There is hope for humanity yet.
lol, the age is wrong.
OMC I didn’t realise so many people (like myself) went to the Toronto signing!!!
Haha! Whoever wrote that is funny. And I know everyone has already said this but they got Edward’s age wrong. I think he would be offended by that
And I also love how they describe Bella and Jacob. Jacob has anger problems hahahahha.
My friend ( who is a 13-year old boy) got halfway through Twilight. He said it was okay. And I said PSHAW!
“Jacob, an aboriginal teenage werewolf with anger issues; Edward, a 200-year-old teenage vampire ”
haha…anger issues
and edward is not 200 years old!!!
but otherwise, pretty good.
Maybe.
Anyways, Congrats Stephanie!!!
wow… they called Bella selfish.
…
I actually got that in the real newspaper
yay.
