While trolling are the Internet today while waiting for the Borders video to load (I’m starting to wonder if we broke Border’s bandwith) I noticed something interesting on the New York Times Bestseller List,
- New Moon is still at number one with 50 weeks total on the list. This means (for those of you keeping count) it has never left the bestseller list since it debuted almost a year ago.
- The paperback version of Twilight is enjoying its 49th week on the list. It has been on the list since it debuted in paperback form.
- And now, for the first time in almost two years, the hardcover version of Twilight is back on the list just under New Moon in the number 4 position.
If you go to Amazon.com (Borders.com is one of their partners) you can see the Eclipse based on pre-orders is their 7th bestselling book period…not on a children’s listing, overall. It is ahead of the current Oprah book pick, and the new James Paterson novel. Unsurprisingly, the only children’s book outselling Eclipse is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows; however, Eclipse is outselling every other Harry Potter book except for the full book gift set.
I know most of us are also Harry Potter fans, but let’s launch Eclipse to catch Harry. If we can do that it will really be something. Just as a reminder, the Changing Hands bookstore will be happy to ship you autographed copies of Eclipse in case Stephenie is not doing a signing in your area. They ship anywhere in the world. So if you are overseas and want a to be assured of a legit autographed copy, they are a great source. Changing Hands got a lot of media attention for their Harry Potter release, wouldn’t it be cool if they could report that Eclipse was outselling Harry? That would be a story.
So get out there and preorder those books, or make plans to get one from your local bookseller the week of August 7th!

I really don;t know the answer to that one for sure, but I don’t believe it does.

I must admit, I love these books. As an editor for my university’s literary journal, I’ve been keeping up with the bestseller listsâ€â€but never really gave YA lit the attention it deserved. I finally picked up Twilight based on a friend’s recommendation and immediately fell in love. Pathetically in love; Eclipse comes out on my sister’s wedding day and I can only pray she won’t spy my nose buried in it as she walks down the aisle.
I know I’m not a regular lexiconer, but I check this site often and thought it would be cool to mention that as of right now, on the B&N Hourly Top 100 Bestsellers, Eclipse is right underneath Deathly Hallows. As in, Eclipse is literally number two!! Woot!! Go Steph!! I know that particular list changes every hour, but I still think it’s exciting. I hope we see a lot more of those high posistions as the release date draws near…

I just noticed it was #2 at Barnes and Noble as well. I am betting some people read about their little shipping mishap and were hoping they might ship one early to them too. How ironic that their MISTAKE could have gotten them more business. Well, I realllllllly hope Eclipse can beat Harry! He’s had enough time in the spotlight, and Stephenie deserves that kind of recognition.

Haha, I know a lot of people who like the Clique books. I’ve never read them, but I don’t think they’re quite as good as Twilight. No offense to anyone who likes them, of course, I’m not saying they’re bad books.

I do like the Clique books. Own them all but compared to Twilight and New Moon there crap. So like I said Stupid Clique book. I’ll just have to buy two copies of New Moon to make up for it.

They’re alright, but it’s very pre-teen. Very typical teenage girl drama. Who broke up with who, whose going out with who, yada yada yada, :yawn: There are a million and one books out there like it.

I love the Twilight series… but I’ve got to say that there is a very small chance of it beating Harry Potter. Eclipse may be in second place only on pre-orders, but the important thing is second place by *how much*? I’d warrant a lot. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows sold 15 million copies in the first *24 hours*. *15 million*.
(Also, Katelyn, I’m totally with you… HP pwns all).
And the Clique books are decent for a laugh. Their type has been done before, but so has Twilight-type books… true love, vampire-romance novels… Anyway, one of the reasons it is probably ahead (or was?) is because it’s new, and Twilight came out a few years ago. Still, I don’t know how popular The Clique books are, so I’m sure their ranking will drop.
That said… I really do love Stephenie Meyer’s books, and hope they get up there in the rankings… just, not past HP. Because, after all, the Twilight series has books to go, chances at hitting number one… and Deathly Hallows is the last Harry Potter book to be published. I’d really love it to go out with a BANG instead of being beat out in the lists within a month.

I agree with Sasha to some extent that Harry Potter should get its due. Like Stephenie Meyer, JK Rowling also worked exremely hard and deserves the credit she deserves.
However, I think eventually Twilight series should overtake it. I mean, harry Potter’s leaving. Maybe we can suck all of the HP fans over to Twilight. Or, at least the girls…
Clique books… light reading, I suppose. Sometimes funny. But if I wanted to experience a clique book, I would just have to go to school. Twilight is SO much better!
