Hi all –
I recieved e-mails from both Stephenie and her publicist asking me to close down our message boards until the 7th due in part to a shipping error from a major book chain. I’ve also been asked to spread this to other message boards and ask them, on behalf of Stephenie who just doesn’t have the time to go and e-mail each and every single message board, to lock down their boards as well. Many of the main message baords in the HP fandom did this before the release, such as Mugglenet and The Leaky Cauldron.
So until Eclispe is released on Aug. 7th the message boards here at the Lex will be off limits and closed to all discussion. The Eclipse Midnight party thread will remain open for two more days so that you can make final arrangements. We will lock that thread on Friday of this week. The thread is only to be used for contact or meet up information. All posts pertaining to discussion of the books in any way in that forum will be deleted. We will happily reopen all the boards around midnight eastern time on August 7th at which time Eclipse will be discussed in the Eclipse forum. The message from Stephenie herself follows this post.

As you may be aware, some copies of Eclipse were accidentally shipped early. As we all just saw with Harry Potter, the shipping of books is an imperfect system and despite the painstaking efforts of many, copies can get out early. The on-sale date of Eclipse is August 7th, and technically nobody should receive a copy of the book until then.
I have a big favor to ask of you lucky early readers. First, I hope you enjoy Eclipse. When you’re done, I know you’re going to want to talk about with your friends, but please remember how you felt reading it for the first time. Do you want to ruin that experience for someone else? I hope not. Please, for me, and for the other readers, don’t post spoilers on the internet. Don’t destroy the fun for everybody. Be kind to each other and my sanity.
Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and devotion to my characters. Just a few more days, and then we’ll all be discussing Eclipse together. Hold on! You can do it!

I’m making it my personal mission to patrol Wikipedia’s Eclipse page and make sure no one posts a cedarlibrarian-esque “summary” on their Eclipse page.
I’m so going to miss the boards and all the fun we had talking about the quote of the day. But I can totally understand the decision to shut it down. I’d hate Eclipse to be ruined for me by spoilers.
So this means I’ll have time to read Wuthering Heights, watch the movie, and be ready and raring to discuss everything on the boards when I get Eclipse.

Arg.. I’m going to really miss the boards and our EQOTD theories. =’( This stinks. But I’m glad the boards are shutdown in a way.. I don’t want anything spoiled for me or anyone else. Poor Stephenie.. I hope this doesn’t get as out of hand as New Moon.. but thanks to the boards shutting down and the early warning we can avoid the book being spoiled for us!

I’m avoiding all things twilight related for the next two weeks, and it’s nice to know I won’t be ‘missing’ anything that goes on here while Im on my self imposed Twilightverse ban. Maybe I’ll finally get Cullenary finished up without the great purple votex of distraction! See you all on release day!
I’m really glad you guys are doing this… I was sooo angry when HPDH spoilers hit, I spent a week avoiding newspapers and the internet. We’ve all waited a long time for Eclipse, it’s only two weeks away!
Well…This kinda sucks, but it’s all for the best. At least no one will get the book ruined for them. It’s actually a smart idea. But I kinda wanted to discuss the first two books.
Oh, well. Two weeks isn’t REALLY that long…I can’t wait for the book to come out, already!!!!
Oh, so sad. But I totally agree that it’s for the best, so I guess I’ll just have to deal with it. The only thing is, (like others have asked already) can you re-instate the thread on the quotes of the day by any chance? I can get the ones on Stephenie’s website, but not the ones on myspace. I don’t think it should be a problem, since Stephenie herself gives permission to post them (or posts them herself). Just wondering if it’s possible…

Now I’m actually going to have to go to Stephenie’s website and MySpace everyday to check for quotes haha. I got so used to checking every few days. Anyways, I can’t wait for the message boards to open up again so we can talk about Eclipse!
Aaaw, poor Stephanie! And three cheers for the mods, for being so smart and up-to-date. *sighs* I’m going to have to go cold turkey now … not even I Got Your Soul to keep me occupied! Will the EQOD thread be deleted as well, when the Eclipse Release Events forum gets deleted?

(Me again.) WOOP!! just saw the new york times bestseller list, and NM is top of children’s chapter books, with TW at no.2 in children’s paperbacks! that made me so happy – and hp is top of children’s series books, obviously, but not for long … mwahahaha …

this SUCKS to know that someone got eclipse early. me and my-uncomputerself ordered it. i don’t know if i did it right. so i have to wait until september to read it, just to be sure it wasnt shipped!! THIS STINKS!
Yeah, they shipped it to me yesterday… I opened it and was like… “this isn’t supposed to be here…”. Poor Stephenie. This must suck for her.

i really like twilight. im getting eclipse on the 7th. i cant wait. i know this sounds weird the way the sentences are so short but im really excited.
i did order eclipse from barnes and nobles and they did get it in but they’re not selling it till the 7th so i still have to wait knowing that they have it and i can’t get it >.

As frustrating as it is not to have the boards to read and post and just have a good time on, I understand the neccessity of shutting them down.
Complete and total bummer, but it’d be worse if Eclipse was spoiled.
Then everyone would be like “Why didn’t they just shut down the boards? Now it’s ruined!”

Does anyone know if B&N will be hit with some kind of fine or other disciplanary action for their shipping “mistake” or do they just get their wrist slapped and told that they were naughty? I’m under the impression that they have done this kind thing before.
my copy of Eclipse was shipped from the ware house on tuesday and then when it got to houston it wasnt dileverd to my house so i checked ups.com and it said: the shipper reciever intercept for this dilevery. so im bummed i could have had it today
Yeah, the copies have all been recalled. There’s no word on how many were delivered before the recall.
Ugh, that totally sucks for Stephenie! I know I’d so be mad! Well, I am mad, that because of this, people are getting her work early. It isn’t fair to anyone, and it’s so much better when we all have 1 release date. Ugh.
Thank you for closing the forums. I will miss you all so much, and it sucks that we won’t have eachother to speculate with for a little while, but at least this way the site stays spoiler free. I think it was the best decision. It would be a shame if all of us had Eclipse spoiled for us.

ok so i really hate that this website thinks they’re awesome just because they have contact with stephenie and her "publishers" I’m really sick of the whole thing– why should you be privileged, you guys are fans just like the rest of us. I’m glad there are other fansites out there keeping forums open who haven’t been "contacted by the publishers"—i’m extremely active in the harry potter sites so i understand spoilers, i just think its wrong to have one special website be contacted, and these publishers don’t have the decency to contact the others
Incidentally, there are few major sites that didn’t close. The only reason the Myspace group is still up is that it would have meant deleting the MySpace group entirely. Fortunately the mods of the MySpace group are mostly high school and college student on a wide variety of time zones. They are literally monitoring 24/7. Hats off to them to be able to do that. Most boards don’t have that type of capability!
Next, we have a relationship, with the author. Alphie has a relationship that goes farther then mine does as Lomesir points out below. It’s a good one because we got in early, were respectful of her wishes, and because of that we’ve gotten the exclusives on some info. It doesn’t make us anything other than fortunate. We still put our pants on one leg at a time just like the rest of the world. Anyone who has met any of us can tell you the same; it’s not as if at EPROM I was running around saying "I am Pel, bow and worship". This is now, has always been, and will always be about Stephenie Meyer and not us. So, please, take your hormonal tirade some place else, like back to your website…I bet I can guess which one you are associated with pretty easily…the jealously thing plays much better over there.
I wouldn’t want to be the person running a message board where the spoilers leak. Unless, you have someone watching 24/7 there is no way to assure that this won’t happen.
Lastly, since you are such an Harry Potter fan, what would you call JKR’s exclusive interview with Emerson and Melissa of Mugglenet and The-Leaky-Cauldron? She didn’t contact everyone. There are too many sites. It’s the same reason Stephenie put the word out here, because most of the main site ops know each other and can get the word out faster…and here’s a novel idea…maybe they were a bit busy trying to stop more books from leaking!

Or MAYBE the publishers and the author contacted the Lexicon because a) it’s the largest fansite, and b) the author is a member and could easily contact the admins. Do you know how many Twilight fansites exist? Hundreds, if not thousands. This place is a kind of hub for many of them– they take their cues, as well as info, from the Lex.
And being asked to shut down is not a privilege, it’s a drawback. We are all at a disadvantage right now.
Curiously, one of the administrators is not a fan “just like the rest of us”. Alphie has a professional relationship with Stephenie Meyer (not sure about Pelirroja). If a spoiler leak was traced to the Lexicon, that relationship could end.

Stephenie and her publisher have aasked the lexicon to act as her messenger to the other fan sites because it has proven to be reliable and respectful. The lex also has conections to the other sites that sm and her publisher do not. sm requested that spoilers not be available until 8/7. if the admins of any fan site truely respect sm they will take every precaution to see that this happens. If it means shuting down for a few days to prevent possible spoilers than so be it. To do otherwise is selfish and arrogant.
the cost to us as fans is very small to extend the respect that Stephenie deserves.
The Twilight lexicon staff is incredibly amazing in their devout relationship with Stephenie Meyer, so it is no womder why Mrs. Meyer chooses to post with the lex. And the lex always forwards their messages to other fansites and expects us as members to do the same if we are a part of other fansites. Closing the message boards, though EXTREMELY PAINFUL, was done out of necessity, and I think it was wonderful that they chose to make the Eclipse reading experience special for all of us. I dare anyone to say anything bad about them. They have a whole lexicon of fans behind them.
On a happier note, I’m leaving Spain and will be back for August 7th!!! I won’t have to wait for Eclipse. OMG OMG OMG!!!
